I wanted to argue, but Judy let out a small groan as more blood pooled between her legs, soaking into the clean bed sheets. My chest tightened, and my wolf surged forward at the sight. I had trouble reeling him back in, and I knew at that moment that Eliza was right. I would interfere if I stayed any longer.

Without a word, I turned to Judy and pressed my lips to the side of her face once again, whispering that I loved her and that I would see her soon.

I pulled away and turned to Eliza.

“Save her,” I said through my teeth.

Eliza didn’t bat an eye; instead, she nodded with determination clear on her face.

I stepped out of the room, though it was hard for me to leave. The moment the door closed behind me, I was met by my Beta.

“How is she?” Taylor asked.

“I’m not sure yet. Eliza’s examining her,” I said. “She pretty much said I’d be a liability if I stayed, and that I needed to give her space to work.”

I ran my fingers through my hair as I leaned against the wall, frustrated and worried. My wolf was on edge and was ready to take down the entire world if it meant protecting his mate.

Taylor nodded as if he understood and put a hand on my shoulder.

“Trust Eliza, she knows what she’s doing. Your mate’s not the only strong female in this pack,” Taylor told me.

I nodded, knowing that he was right.

“Yeah,” I said, running my fingers through my hair for the hundredth time. “Your mate is pretty badass. I hope she can save both my mate and son.”

“She will,” Taylor assured me, giving my shoulder another squeeze before releasing it. “The Blackwells just arrived, along with Judy’s adoptive parents. They’re in the waiting room with Nan and Irene.”

I nodded and took a deep breath before I made my way into the waiting room. Immediately, Irene was in front of me.

“How is she?” She asked. Matt stood beside her, also looking worried. I put my hand on Matt’s shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze.

“Eliza is with her now. I can’t be in there with her,” I told them. “But I trust Eliza… and she’s going to make sure Judy and the baby are okay.”

Conversation flowed around me, though I barely paid attention to anything being said. It was mainly the group trying to distract itself with mindless conversation, but I was too numb to participate or listen.

Then again, everybody saw what Judy was capable of and that she’s willing to protect those who had wronged her. That in itself was a win.

The doors of the room Judy was in opened, and I immediately stood to my feet, my heart in my throat.

Eliza walked out; she looked exhausted with dark circles beneath her eyes. She had blood on her scrubs, and she was removing gloves that were also covered in blood, which only made my chest tighten more.

Taylor was immediately by her side, and she gave him a small smile, nodding as he asked her if she was okay.

Eliza finally looked at me, and she stepped forward.

“Judy is okay,” she announced, and I heard the breath leaving almost everybody in the waiting room. “And the baby is healthy. Congratulations… you have a baby boy.”
