Devon's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and said to Chloe, "It's Laurence. He must've seen your post. I bet he's calling to complain that I finished knitting the sweater before he did."
Chloe smiled. "Go ahead and take the call. I'll work for a while."
"Sure."
Devon sat on the sofa before answering Laurence's call.
Chloe could not hear what Laurence said on the phone, nor was she curious. She had work to finish.
She wanted to clear enough time over the next couple of days to go to the City Hall with Devon and register their marriage.
She was not acting on impulse.
She and Devon had grown up together. They had been childhood sweethearts, and Devon loved her deeply. Her feelings for him were just as strong.
Their families knew each other inside out, and they were well matched in every way. The marriage was always a matter of when, not if.
She and Devon were both twenty-eight this year, which was a suitable age to get married.
They could register their marriage and then hold the wedding during the year-end holiday. They could also enjoy their honeymoon on paid time off, so their work would not be affected.
After a few years enjoying life as a couple, they could think about having a child.
Chloe hoped she could be like her mother and have fraternal twins—a boy and a girl.
She was serious by nature, but she loved children and wanted to experience having both a son and daughter.
