Chapter 165
She stood right in front of him, yet he didn’t notice her existence at all.
In his eyes, there seemed to be only Eliza, as if she was the only one he could see.
Thankfully, when she turned her head to look at Calvin, his gaze wasn’t on Eliza.
“Let’s go eat.” Calvin’s tone was calm and flat, giving no hint of emotion.
Medea nodded obediently. As she followed him out, she glanced back in Eliza’s direction.
The moment Baxter saw Eliza, the smile never left his face. His whole expression was lit with delight.
Even from across the distance, Medea could feel that subtle affection Baxter had for Eliza.
When did it start?
That was the question that lingered in her mind all the way out.
When she had first returned to the country, Baxter still treated her very well.
Though not as warm and available as Gideon, he would still make time to meet her when he could.
But gradually, she found she couldn’t get him to come out anymore.
He always said he was busy.
‘specially during the time she had tried to introduce him to Vivian. She had invited him many times, but not once had he agreed.
f she remembered correctly, that was when Wade Auto Group had just struck a partnership with Apex.
it that thought, Medea’s gaze turned cold.
he had underestimated Eliza.
This woman might lack ability and brains, but she had a knack for reeling men in.
ust like Regina had warned her.
or Eliza to stay at Calvin’s side for seven years, she couldn’t possibly be simple.
t was her own carelessness that let Baxter fall under Eliza’s spell.
Collecting her thoughts, she said to Calvin,
‘Since we ran into him, should we ask Baxter to join us for a meal?”
Calvin asked, “Do you want to?”
‘I just suddenly thought it’s been a while since we had dinner together. Relationships need to be maintained with contact.”
“I’ll call him.”
Whatever she wanted to do, Calvin always supported without question.
On the other side, Baxter was speaking with Eliza. Seeing Calvin’s call, he hung up almost immediately without hesitation
Calvin remained calm, and told Medea truthfully, “He didn’t answer. Maybe next time.”
Chapter 165
“Next time then.” She knew she couldn’t rush things.
As long as she wanted, she had her ways of pulling Baxter back into her camp..
Meanwhile, after hanging up, Baxter asked Eliza, “Since it’s such a coincidence, why don’t we eat together? I happen to have some cooperation matters involving you I’d like to discuss.”
Whenever work was mentioned, Eliza would agree. That was what Baxter had learned.
Sure enough, she didn’t hesitate. “Alright, let me tell Erik.”
The restaurant was Baxter’s choice, one of the most popular spots in G City.
He had seen online reviews calling it perfect for couples‘ dates, so he’d booked without a second thought.
But just as they arrived, they ran into Calvin and Medea dining there as well.
Worried it would affect Eliza’s mood, Baxter suggested, “Let’s change to another restaurant.”
Why should we?” Eliza was calmer than he’d expected. “I think this place is nice, the environment is good. Let’s stay.”
She truly found it troublesome to leave.
Switching meant wasting time and to her, wasted time was wasted money.
Before walking in, she made it clear to Baxter, “Besides, your worry is unnecessary.”
Her Chapter with Calvin was long closed.
Even if he and Medea were to passionately kiss in front of her, she could still sit there and eat her meal in peace.
Obsession was punishing yourself. Letting go was making peace with yourself.
laxter was struck by her resolve, almost unable to hide the admiration and affection in his heart.
uckily, Eliza wasn’t looking his way.
le hurried to catch up and, just before she sat down, pulled out her chair like a gentleman.
hat scene fell squarely into Medea’s eyes,
ven the finest fole gras on her plate suddenly tasted bland.
liza had been busy all day and was truly hungry.
When Baxter told her to order, she didn’t hold back, picking several of her favorite dishes.
o Baxter, that only made her seem more genuine.
le couldn’t help wondering what had been wrong with him before-
Why had he thought Eliza was pretentious?
Thinking carefully, he realized…
Back then, Eliza had revolved completely around Calvin, putting his needs above her own, losing herself entirely.
As Gideon once put it–she’d been nothing more than a pathetic pushover.
Even if the world ended, she wouldn’t have left Calvin.
But the world hadn’t ended, and she had walked away from him.
Chapter 165
It was dinner hour, so the restaurant was full.
At the next table sat a family of three. After the mother had fed her little girl, the child hopped down and wandered around the table.
When she passed Eliza, she suddenly leaned into her lap. “Pretty sister!”
“Don’t bother her. Come back,” her mother called.
Eliza quickly smiled. “It’s fine.”
She lovingly stroked the little girl’s head, her voice unconsciously softening. “Sweetheart, you’re very pretty too.”
“Big sister is prettier.”
Eliza’s heart melted at her cuteness. She couldn’t help smiling, her whole face softening. “Do you want some pudding? The crème caramel is really good.”
“Yes!”
“Want me to feed you?”
Yes!”
Across from them, Baxter stared at the scene, unable to look away.
It was the first time he had seen such a gentle side of Eliza.
Every facet of her left him awestruck.
Suppressing the pounding in his chest, he asked, “Do you like kids a lot?”
