On the day of the banquet, Eliza was busy at the hotel and didn’t go to the office.
Sadie came in the afternoon to help. When she saw that Eliza was dressed as usual, she urged her to hurry and change into her dress.
To everyone’s surprise, Eliza said she had forgotten to order the dress.
If anyone else had said this, they would have been believed, but when Eliza said it, Sadie didn’t buy it.
After all, she was the meticulous, flawless Secretary Grant. How could she forget something like this?
Sadie wanted to say something, but Eliza just calmly gave her orders without showing any signs of distress.
All the comforting words Sadie had prepared were swallowed back down.
At 5:30 PM, Calvin still hadn’t arrived, but guests had started arriving in waves.
Eliza had to temporarily take Calvin’s place and greet the guests. She was running around so much, her face almost frozen from forcing a smile.
At 5:50, Eliza once again asked Sadie, “Do you know where Mr. Young is?”
Sadie was also anxious. “I don’t know. I can’t reach Mr. Young.”
After a brief pause, Eliza instructed, “Call Director Wynn and ask.”
Sadie did as she was told.
Soon, she got the answer from Medea. After hanging up the phone, she looked at Eliza with a complex expression.
“What did Director Wynn say?” Eliza asked.
Sadie couldn’t hide the truth and had to admit, “Director Wynn said Mr. Young is with her. He’s accompanying her to modify her dress. They got delayed a bit, but they’re on their way now. They might be a few minutes late, so you’ll have to hold down the fort for now.”
Sadie’s eyes were filled with sympathy as she said the last part.
Eliza responded calmly, “I understand. You can go ahead and handle things.”
The guests were all there to see Calvin. Without him, naturally, they all had questions for her.
Eliza could only deal with them one by one.
Dealing with all these questions meant a lot of drinking and forced smiles.
She had been at the hotel all day and barely had time to eat. Now, with all the alcohol, her stomach started feeling uncomfortable again.
Calvin and Medea arrived at 6:10, ten minutes late.
It wasn’t a long delay, but it was the moment everyone had been waiting for.
As soon as they appeared, all eyes were on them.
Some people had already started discussing.

“Who’s that beautiful woman beside Mr. Young? I’ve never seen her before.”
“No wonder Secretary Grant didn’t wear a dress today. It’s because Mr. Young has another lady companion.”
Those talking seemed to be familiar with Calvin and knew that he always brought Eliza as his companion to such events.
“You don’t know? The woman beside Mr. Young is quite influential. Her father is Minister Wynn, a man who’s well–matched with the Young family.”
There were some exclamations of awe.
“So, Mr. Young is planning to settle down with her?”
“Looks like good things are coming soon.”
Eliza heard every word clearly as she put down her drink and looked in the direction of the two of them.
Calvin was wearing the dress she had picked out for him earlier.
It suited him perfectly.
The size was also spot–on.
After all, she had measured him herself, so there couldn’t have been any mistakes.
Medea, however, wasn’t wearing the dress Eliza had ordered for her.
But Eliza still recognized it at first glance. The dress Medea was wearing was the one Eliza had chosen the day before at Luxe Atelier.
It was clear that Calvin truly dotes on Medea.
When the first dress had been ruined, he immediately took her to Luxe Atelier to order a new one.
And he even personally accompanied her to modify the dress, not caring that this delayed the banquet.
Even though he was the host of the event.
He was someone who had always been punctual.
But for Medea, Calvin was breaking all his usual rules, once again shattering Eliza’s perceptions of him.
At that moment, she suddenly felt that Calvin had become a stranger to her.
They had done all the most intimate things together,
Sadie poured Eliza some hot water and asked with concern, “Secretary Grant, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I can hold on,” Eliza replied, feeling a little better after drinking the hot water. “How’s everything outside?”
“All good,” Sadie sighed in resignation. “But you should take care of yourself first. You look so pale.”
“You go ahead and take care of things. I’ll rest for a bit,” Eliza told Sadie, not wanting her to worry too much while she handled the guests.
“Alright, call me if you need anything.”

Chapter 36
After Sadie left, Eliza was about to lean against the wall to rest when her phone rang.
It was Calvin.
Eliza answered, her voice carrying the weight of exhaustion. “Mr. Young.”
“Where are you?”
Even through the phone, Eliza could feel the coldness in his tone.
“In the restroom.”
“Come over quickly.”
Eliza wanted to ask what was going on, but Calvin hung up on her.
It was as though every extra word she spoke was a waste of his time!
Eliza had no choice but to pull herself together and head out.
Calvin was chatting with the guests, his face full of smiles.
After all, with both career and love flourishing, he had every reason to be happy.
When he saw Eliza approach, his brow furrowed slightly.
It was probably because she wasn’t wearing the dress he had ordered for her.
With guests around, he didn’t say anything, but just tilted his chin to indicate that she should serve drinks.
It was clear that the phone call he made earlier was to get her to help him with the drinking.
Just like before, calling her whenever he needed, and dismissing her when he was done.
Eliza hesitated for a couple of seconds before saying, “Mr. Young, I’m not feeling well. My stomach is bothering me.”
Calvin frowned, apparently not expecting this response from her.
His tone automatically darkened, “This is Mr. West from Horizon Capital.”
Mr. West was a major figure in the northern capital circle.
This meant Eliza had to show respect.
Eliza had no choice but to pick up the glass and clink it with Mr. West’s.
