Ottilie’s question caught Eliza completely off guard, leaving her feeling embarrassed.
She didn’t dare look at Calvin’s reaction, afraid that he might think too much or even expose the truth.
Fortunately, Calvin, a master at acting, remained silent for a moment before casually speaking, “I haven’t thought that far ahead.”
Eliza’s chest tightened for a second.
Had he not thought that far ahead, or had he never considered marrying her at all?
There was a moment when she almost couldn’t keep up the act.
But Calvin looked up and asked, “Let’s see what kind of wedding Eliza likes.”
When Ottilie turned to look at her curiously, Eliza quickly avoided Calvin’s gaze and gave a vague answer, “A tradition–style wedding, I suppose. Traditional weddings have more of a sense of ceremony.”
Ottilie, full of excitement, replied, “I think so too. The traditional three–officials–six–invitations, the official marriage ceremony, it really shows respect.”
Calvin continued chatting with Ottilie casually, while Eliza’s thoughts began to wander.
Fortunately, Calvin didn’t stay long. When he said he was leaving, Eliza secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Before she could say her usual “Bye,” Ottilie urged Eliza to send Calvin off.
If they were going to act, they might as well go all the way. Eliza had no choice but to reluctantly play along and pretend to be reluctant at his
departure.
However, as soon as they exited the ward, Eliza’s face changed. She didn’t want to play the game for even a second longer.
“Goodbye, Mr. Young.”
Calvin was amused by her reaction and mocked, “Who taught you to burn bridges like that?”
“I’ve been following you since I entered society, so who else could have taught me?” Eliza retorted sarcastically.
“I taught you more than just that.”
Eliza wasn’t an eighteen–year–old girl anymore, so she could easily understand the implications behind his words.
But before she could respond, Calvin’s phone rang.
He answered in front of her, his emotions fading, and his voice softening, “What’s up?”
It was Medea on the other end.
“Where have you been? You’ve been gone so long. Did you leave early?”
The corridor in the hospital was quiet enough that Eliza could clearly hear their conversation.
Calvin patiently answered, “I didn’t leave, just ran into some acquaintances and chatted for a while. I was about to come find you.”
“Then hurry up and come over, I’m so bored,” Medea whined.

“Okay.”
Calvin hung up the phone, then turned to tell Eliza something but found she was already gone.
He didn’t think much of it and turned to leave.
At the corner, Eliza leaned against the wall, her body feeling like it had rusted, immobile.
So Calvin wasn’t here specifically to visit Ottilie.
He had come to visit Medea ‘s future mother–in–law while “conveniently” checking on Ottilie.
That’s Calvin for you–he could stab someone in the back with no hesitation.
When Eliza returned to the ward, Ottilie was holding her phone and watching something. She called Eliza over,
“Eliza, take a look at this wedding. It’s tradition–style, very creative. You young people should like it. I’ll wear a dress and attend my daughter’s wedding in full regalia.”
Eliza couldn’t bear to interrupt her excitement, so she quietly listened.
Ottilie described it enthusiastically, but when she noticed Eliza wasn’t reacting, she looked at her in confusion.
“Eliza, why is your face so pale?”
Eliza pressed her face into Ottilie’s hand and couldn’t help but sigh. “Mom, your hands are so warm.”
She closed her eyes so Ottilie couldn’t see the emotions hidden in her eyes.
Ottilie gently rubbed her face. “Your face is just too cold.”
Eliza stayed with Ottilie for a while before getting up to head home.
Tomorrow was the celebration banquet, and she needed to get up early to prepare at the hotel, so it was inconvenient for her to stay at the hospital with Ottilie.
Of course, it was also because Ottilie didn’t want her to stay and tire herself out. She was in the post–op recovery stage, and everything was fine.
Moreover, Eliza had hired a caregiver, so there were no problems.
As Eliza took the elevator downstairs, she unexpectedly ran into a familiar face,
The other person looked surprised to see her as well.
“Secretary Grant, what are you doing here?”
Enzo Klein was holding a bowl of soup, probably also visiting a patient.
“My mom is hospitalized here,” Eliza explained and then asked, “Enzo, are you visiting a relative?”
“It’s my mom. She fell a few days ago.”
“Is it serious?”
“She fractured a bone, but it’s not serious.”

“Glad to hear that.”
Eliza and Enzo had met during a project one that Eliza had really believed in, but which Medea had vetoed, the Al project.
Eliza still felt a little embarrassed because she had approached Enzo first.
Enzo didn’t quite understand it either. Since they had run into each other, he decided to ask.
“Secretary Grant, wasn’t Everest very interested in the SUUP I developed? Why did they suddenly pull out of the collaboration?”
Enzo was a technical person and didn’t understand the complexities of business, so he spoke plainly.
“I’m really sorry, but Everest has replaced their investment director. The new director is the one making decisions on the project, and I can’t speak for it anymore.”
Enzo frowned. “I thought it was strange. You were the one I was in contact with the whole time, and then out of nowhere, someone else told me they were pulling out.”
“I’m sorry.”
Enzo shook his head. “No need to apologize. You ran back and forth for this project, and in the end, nothing came of it. I should be the one apologizing.”
“At least the project is still in its early stages. You have a chance to find new investors, I hope it hasn’t delayed you too much.”
“I’ve reached out to other investors, but I always feel like they don’t get me. They’re just in it for the profit,” Enzo sighed. “I still think you, Secretary Grant, are the one who really understands me.”
At this point, Enzo asked the question that had been puzzling him for a while. “Secretary Grant, I’ve always been curious. With your vision and ability, being just a secretary seems like such a waste. You’re more than capable of being an independent investor. Why have you been content
to just be the CEO’s secretary at Everest?”
