Chapter 39

Calvin’s tone and expression were both urgent, especially since it was someone he cared about.

But Eliza couldn’t understand. How could he be so concerned just because Medea wasn’t there for a short while?

“Say something! Where is she?” Calvin’s tone was beginning to show his impatience.

Eliza found him strange. “How would I know where she is? She’s not a three–year–old child. I’m not responsible for babysitting her!”

Gideon, standing nearby, spoke harshly, “Amanda said you’d know where she went. If you don’t ask, who will?”

Eliza frowned.

Though she was annoyed by their tone, since it involved someone’s safety, she couldn’t afford to argue. She replied honestly, “Just now, Director Wynn was with Mr. Tyler from Starlight. Maybe Mr. Tyler knows where she is.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Calvin’s face became even colder, making Eliza shiver slightly.

“Eliza, you know exactly what kind of person Mr. Tyler is. How could you let him be alone with Medea?” Calvin’s voice was harsh with reproach.

Eliza was stunned for a moment, realizing that Calvin hadn’t even bothered to understand the situation before placing all the blame on her.

Gideon, who also knew about Mr. Tyler, immediately jumped to Medea ‘s defense. “If anything happens to Medea, Eliza, I swear I won’t let you

off the hook!”

He rushed off to find someone, clearly worried about Medea ‘s safety.

Calvin’s gaze on Eliza was intense, as if he were drilling into her. “Eliza, even if you don’t like her, there’s no need to use dirty tricks against her.”

In that moment, Eliza felt like something cold and painful had flooded her chest.

So, in Calvin’s eyes, she was the kind of person who would resort to such underhanded methods?

Eliza was the one who had organized the banquet, so she was more familiar with the venue than anyone else.

Even though she was later than the others, she was still the first to find Medea.

At that moment, Medea was already in a private room with Mr. Tyler.

Eliza couldn’t understand why Medea was so naïve to let a man take her to a private room alone.

Eliza’s sudden appearance made Mr. Tyler, who had been about to succeed, visibly upset. His expression changed. “Secretary Grant, when did you become so rude? You didn’t even knock? Is this how you entertain distinguished guests at Everest?”

Medea seemed to have had a bit too much to drink. She was tipsy and didn’t fully understand what was going on but still remembered to defend Everest, saying, “Mr. Tyler, don’t be angry. I’ll drink a glass to apologize.”

Mr. Tyler pulled Medea into his arms, pressing himself against her. “No need to be angry, no need ”

“Hey, Mr. Tyler, what are you doing…” Medea seemed startled by his sudden closeness and struggled.

But with the alcohol in her system, she couldn’t push him away. Iler weak resistance only seemed to embolden Mr. Tyler.

Medea was Calvin’s precious person. If something were to happen to her, Calvin would likely lose his mind.

Eliza discreetly called Calvin while trying to stop Mr. Tyler. “Mr. Tyler, Director Wynn seems to have had too much to drink. Let me take her to

rest.”

“Eliza, what do you mean by this?” Mr. Tyler was displeased with her actions.

“Mr. Tyler, Director Wynn is Mr. Young’s friend.” Eliza didn’t dare to call them a couple since Calvin hadn’t publicly announced it yet. But she emphasized their relationship to make Mr. Tyler more rational.

“I’m also a friend of Mr. Young. He won’t hold it against me. You better leave now!” Mr. Tyler, impatient, started becoming more inappropriate.

“Mr. Tyler, Mr. Young is looking for Director Wynn. Let her go first. I’ll drink with you.” Eliza forced a smile and positioned herself in front of

Medea.

Mr. Tyler narrowed his eyes at her.

Though Eliza did appeal to him, the meat was already in his hands, and losing it made him dissatisfied.

The business world was full of unsavory unspoken rules, and Eliza knew them well. Yet she still insisted on ruining his mood.

This made Mr. Tyler very unhappy.

Without another word, he grabbed a glass of wine and poured it all over Eliza’s face. “Do you think you’re such a big deal? Why should I give you face? You’re just a small secretary. What right do you have to tell me what to do?”

Eliza was caught off guard, drenched in wine.

The cold liquid dripped down her face and into her collar, but it helped her stay calm.

“Mr. Tyler, you’ve spilled your wine, vented your anger, and now I’ll take her away. You rest well, we won’t disturb you.”

She said this as she pulled the soft Medea out of the room, not caring about how angry Mr. Tyler was or how harshly he was shouting at her.

At the end of the corridor, Calvin and Gideon arrived hurriedly.

When they saw them, Gideon immediately shouted, “Medea!”

Medea, still a bit tipsy, immediately pushed Eliza away and rushed toward Calvin.

Calvin caught her in his arms.

Eliza was pushed and slammed against the wall, her situation as embarrassing as it could get.

When she steadied herself, Calvin was already holding Medea tightly in his arms.

He was looking down, concerned about Medea. “Are you okay?”

Medea, with red eyes, looked like she had just suffered some injustice. “I didn’t know Mr. Tyler would get physical…”

Calvin frowned, glancing at Eliza. Gone was the tenderness from earlier; his expression was now cold.

“Eliza, you better explain yourself!”

Explain what?

Explain so he would listen?
