Mr. Tyler was still talking, but Eliza could barely hear him. The surrounding noise and Calvin’s departing figure gradually blurred into a haze in
her mind.
Everything felt bleak.
In her efforts to minimize the impact of the situation, maintain Medea ‘s innocence, and preserve the cooperation between Everest and
Starlight, she had even considered Mr. Tyler’s dignity.
Yet, she had completely forgotten to consider herself. She had failed to think about what to do with the mess she found herself in now.
Mr. Tyler, who had been embarrassed earlier, now looked at her with an air of pity and sympathy.
“Secretary Grant, are you really planning to resign?” Mr. Tyler feigned concern.
Eliza didn’t respond, simply dabbing at her face with a tissue, wiping away the alcohol.
“If you really want to resign, you can come to Starlight. I’ll take you in.”
Eliza’s expression remained neutral as she replied, “If I came, Mr. Tyler, you might lose the cooperation with Everest.”
Mr. Tyler immediately fell silent.
This was the reality.
Capitalists didn’t give up money for anyone.
Calvin was the same.
Perhaps feeling a little sorry for her, Mr. Tyler left, but not before saying with a knowing glance, “Your Director Wynn isn’t simple.”
Mr. Tyler didn’t elaborate, but he knew that with Eliza’s intelligence, she would eventually understand his subtle hint.
Sadie rushed to Eliza, noticing her appearance and immediately feeling her eyes water.
Without asking, Eliza reassured her, “I’m fine.”
“I have clothes you can wear,” Amanda said. “They might be a bit big, but they’ll do. It’s cold, you’ll catch a cold if you stay in wet clothes.”
She dragged Eliza to change.
Sadie’s clothes were a size larger than Eliza’s, and they were loose and shapeless. It was hard to say she looked presentable, but Eliza didn’t care.
As she returned to the banquet hall, Calvin and Meden were already on stage giving their speech.
Medea, who had been tipsy earlier, now showed no sign of being drunk. She had even changed into a new dress, exactly the one Eliza had ordered for herself.
In the end, it was Medea who wore it.
Their similar outfits, almost like matching couple attire, drew everyone’s attention.
The whispers around her were unavoidable, with people commenting on how well–matched they were, praising their “perfect match” and

“handsome man, beautiful woman.”
These compliments reached Medea ‘s ears, and she was visibly pleased, radiating with joy and satisfaction.
Eliza suddenly understood what Mr. Tyler had meant earlier.
As expected, adults weren’t naive enough to misunderstand a man’s intentions.
Medea ‘s cooperation with Mr. Tyler had one clear goal: to get Calvin’s attention.
Or perhaps, it was also to make Eliza take the fall.
Either way, she had succeeded in both goals, which was why she now looked so pleased.
Eliza stood in a corner, staring at the image of the two of them standing together.
Though the lighting was dim, it still felt blinding to her.
She had changed into a loose, oversized outfit, and despite the ample heating in the hall, despite the fact that she was wearing more layers than anyone else, she still felt an overwhelming chill.
She couldn’t help but laugh to herself, not even sure why.
At some point, Josh had appeared beside her. Seeing her hugging her arms, he removed his coat and draped it over her.
The coat had warmth to it.
Eliza took a moment to relax and whispered a thank–you.
Josh, his gaze still fixed on the matching couple on stage, spoke softly, “Don’t look anymore.”
Eliza nodded. “Mm.”
The banquet ended at 10 PM.
As the organizer of the event, Eliza naturally had to stay until the very end.
After sending off the last batch of guests, Eliza finally relaxed. When she returned to find Amanda, she unexpectedly overheard a conversation from Gideon.
He was asking Calvin, “Calv, do you think Eliza is serious about resigning, or is she just playing around?”
“Does she really want to leave the company? Why does she not believe it?”
He added a mocking laugh. “You should’ve just agreed with her. Let’s see how she handles it. Knowing her, even if you agreed, she’d find a way to stay. Even if she leaves, she’ll find a way to come back.”
Eliza bypassed them and headed to Amanda.
When Medea and Gideon came out, they saw Josh waiting at the door.
Medea ‘s eyes lit up, and she took the initiative to greet him, “Josh, you haven’t left yet?”
Gideon said, “Josh is waiting for me. I won’t be the third wheel for you two.”
Medea kept smiling, “Then you two go ahead. I’ll wait for Calvin; he’ll be out soon.”

Chapter 40
Before Gideon got in the car, he seemed to have thought of something and turned to ask Josh, “By the way, Josh, have you decided on your female companion for the Unite banquet? The board members aren’t easy to deal with. If you don’t bring a date, they’ll try to pair you up with someone to build relationships.”
“You’ve just come back to the country, and probably don’t know many people, so why not ask Medea? She’s trustworthy, and it would make a good impression.”
Medea looked at Josh with some anticipation in her eyes.
The Unite banquet was all about connections and resources, and it might be a great opportunity for a few good projects to solidify her position
in Everest.
