Chapter 55
As soon as the message was sent out, someone tagged her in the group.
Eliza accidentally clicked on the notification, opening the group chat. She realized it was from a team–building group from a previous event with Everest. She hadn’t saved the group and had forgotten to leave.
The message was from Amanda, who had tagged everyone in the group. The excitement in her words was obvious.
“Guess who I ran into in B City? I ran into President Young and Director Wynn! They came to B City just to see the first snowfall! So romantic, right?!”
“Really? President Young and Director Wynn are so sweet!”
“I heard online that when a man invites a woman to enjoy the first snowfall together, it’s a confession of love. So, is President Young confessing to
Director Wynn?”
“Best wishes!”
“Best wishes, 99!”
The group was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages for the two.
Medea, who had been tagged, also responded, politely thanking everyone for their well wishes. “Thank you.” She even shared a photo of the first snow she had just taken.
In the top right corner of the photo was a familiar figure, looking down at his phone. The phone’s screen illuminated his well–defined side profile.
Wasn’t it Calvin?
So, was this the public declaration of their romance?
It came sooner than Eliza had expected, but it made sense. After all, they had met each other’s families, so going public was just a matter of time.
The group continued to send their blessings to the couple.
Eliza silently left the group chat, opened the conversation with Calvin again, and retracted the message she had just sent.
There was no response from his side, probably because he was too busy.
But Eliza felt that it was more likely that he was ignoring her,
After all, this wasn’t the first time he had ignored her messages.
When did this start?
Eliza thought back.
It had probably started about a year ago when Calvin’s attitude began to change. He frequently went on business trips abroad, whereas he used to take Eliza along, as she was his secretary.
Looking back now, he might have been using those business trips as an excuse to meet with Medea. Not taking her along was entirely reasonable.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t realized it back then and had assumed he was just busy with the company’s listing. She even went out of her way to prepare for his trips, making sure everything was ready.
She would endlessly remind him of the things to be mindful of, even finding local restaurants that suited his tastes…

“Don’t drink too much…”
Calvin’s attitude was always calm, and the look in his eyes was complicated. Perhaps, at that time, he had already decided to end things.
He just didn’t want to be the bad guy in the relationship, so he chose to be indifferent toward her.
Yet, Eliza always thought his change of attitude was due to his busy schedule.
In the end, she was the one who misjudged the situation.
Eliza wasn’t affected by this. She went to bed on time, ready for a fresh start the next day.
When she woke up, she felt energized.
Thea asked her on Facebook if she would be visiting Enzo today.
Eliza said she was going.
Thea replied, “Then I’ll leave it to you. I won’t be a third wheel.”
Eliza could only smile helplessly, not replying further.
She understood Thea’s intentions, but right now, she had just ended a seven–year relationship and wasn’t ready for a new one.
The girl meant well, so Eliza didn’t want to spoil her enthusiasm.
As she was leaving the conversation, her gaze fell on her chat with Calvin again.
Still no response.
Eliza quickly removed him from her recent chat history and then went out to continue her investment meetings.
She visited two companies in the morning, but there were still no results.
At noon, she bought food and went to the hospital to visit Enzo. She found him still working, even though he had an IV drip.
He was so focused that he didn’t realize the drip had run dry and the needle had started to draw blood.
Eliza rushed over, handling the situation swiftly. She replaced the drip bag and released the air inside.
Enzo, curious, asked, “How do you know how to do this?”
“My mom’s health isn’t good, so I’ve had to learn how to care for her.”
Enzo responded with a simple “Oh,” unsure how to continue the conversation.
He was a bit of a tech geek, not very skilled at socializing, and certainly didn’t know how to interact with girls.
Thea knew this about him and had been teaching him how to chase girls. She had given him many tips, but Enzo had no idea how to apply them.
His words always turned into work related talk. “Was today smooth?”
“Yeah, I have two more companies to visit this afternoon,” she said lightly.
But Enzo noticed a sore spot on her heel from her high heels.
He didn’t ask more but pressed the call bell, asking a nurse to bring the supplies to treat the wound.

Eliza was about to inquire about his injury when Enzo handed her the supplies, hinting that she should treat her own heel.
Eliza hadn’t even noticed the injury, her mind focused on the project.
“Do you always have to wear high heels? I think you could wear something more comfortable,” Enzo said.
“Good personal image management not only enhances your professional image but also builds trust with clients,” Eliza replied.
Enzo finally understood. “I see.”
Recently, other investment companies had approached Enzo, but he had turned them down.
Seeing how hard Eliza was working, he hesitated about whether he should reach out to them again.
So, after she left, Enzo began calling them one by one.
The companies were still interested in his project, but once they heard that he already had seed investors, they started finding excuses to turn him
down.
After all, entering the project late meant smaller stakes and higher risks.
Unless more capital came in during the angel round, no one wanted to co–invest.
This was why Eliza had been hitting roadblocks lately.
Although reality was harsh, Eliza maintained a good attitude.
This resilience was something she had developed from years of running projects.
When she first got into project work, Calvin had been guiding her step by step.
