Shadows Between Us (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196 Where’s My Fancy Door?

Blake came over, practically wagging his tail.

Stella asked, “Did you notice anything?”

She furrowed her brows slightly, patiently prompting him.

Blake froze.

He looked totally lost.

Blake blinked, “Uh… There are a lot of resignation letters?”

Stella and Sebastian were speechless.

Stella’s fists clenched.

Stella snapped, “Look again!”

Blake felt a chill run down his spine.

Sebastian reminded him in a serious tone, “The envelopes.”

“Ah!” Blake suddenly got it. He scrambled to check the resignation letters on the table, inspecting each one. These envelopes are all exactly the same.”

lon Wing Drones never asked for resignation letters to come with envelopes, but all these envelopes were white with silver patterns, clearly identical.

The people quitting were from all sorts of departments, so it was impossible for everyone to end up with the exact same envelopes.

There was only one answer. Someone had gotten all these envelopes ready for them ahead of time. Blake said, “Did they know all along that someone would show up today to put the squeeze on me?”

As the realization hit, Blake stared at the resignation letters, his heart a whirlwind of emotions.

At the entrance, the Yates crew came back with the Chief Accountant, Tom. They were just about to knock but then paused.

‘Where the heck is the door?’ they thought, totally baffled.

Lincoln glanced at the door lying flat on the floor, exchanged a look with Jake, and then just knocked on the wall instead.

“Mr. Gray, Ms. Carter, the Chief Accountant is here,” Lincoln called out.

Tom was totally stunned, at a loss for words.

He stared at the wall where Lincoln had left a dent, clutching his laptop and barely daring to breathe.

Stella turned to Blake. “You’ve got five minutes. Go to the break room, freshen up, and put on something clean.”

Blake stammered, “Stella, I…”

Stella cut him off, “Go!”

Her tone left no room for argument.

Blake turned and headed into the break room. As the door clicked shut, Xander sneered, “Ms. Carter, Blake can’ t even tell when someone’s scheming against him.

“Seriously, isn’t helping a guy like that just a total waste of your time?”

Stella raised an eyebrow, about to retort, when the break room door cracked open. Blake poked his head out, all sneaky, glaring at Xander. He’d obviously caught every word.

He couldn’t help but stare at Stella.

Stella and Sebastian were speechless.

Stella and Sebastian shouted together, “Get back in there nowe

Blake whimpered.

Stella took a deep breath, tamping down her anger. When she looked up again, her eyes were cold and indifferent.

Stella said, “So, who do you think I should be helping?”

Inside the break room, Blake, terrified the ‘parental duo’ would think he was useless, pressed a glass against the wall, eavesdropping like his life depended on it.

Xander said, “Obviously, me.”

Blake, still glued to the wall, was speechless.

He thought, ‘Humph.

‘Seriously, what a shameless clown.’

Stella tilted her head, letting out a soft chuckle, as if she’d just heard a pretty amusing joke.

For a moment, she seemed to glow, absolutely stunning.

Blake, still glued to the wall, was speechless.

Suddenly, her smile vanished.

Stella asked, “Are you even worthy?”

Just those words made Xander’s face go completely blank.

Blake, done eavesdropping, let out a giggle.

With a loud flop, he buried himself in the big bed in the break room, arms and legs flailing around like he was swimming through the sheets.

‘I really am Stella’s favorite kid!’ Blake thought proudly.

Blake grinned to himself, feeling like the luckiest kid in the world.

Then, Stella picked up the office phone with one hand and hit a speed dial. “Get everyone who handed in their resignation to gather in the lobby downstairs. Everyone else is welcome to come and watch.”

She hung up the phone.

She leaned lazily against the desk, giving Xander and Penelope an almost mocking smile. “Honestly, you two just made my job a whole lot easier.”

There was a hidden edge to Stella’s words.

Xander picked up on it right away, and his expression instantly turned icy.

Blake changed faster than lightning, slipping into an all-black suit with a silver tie, totally channeling Sebastian’

s look. He’d even secretly matched several sets just like Sebastian’s, just in case.

Stella raised an eyebrow.

‘Now he actually looks pretty good, Stella thought, a little amused.

Blake looked just like a goofy puppy, his eyes shining with hope as he glanced at Stella and Sebastian.

‘Praise me! Say I look awesome! Hurry up!’ Blake cheered himself on inside, practically wagging his tail.

Stella said, “Let’s go.”

She didn’t even look at Blake, heading straight back to Sebastian’s side. “Everyone’s already downstairs, waiting for you.”

Blake was confused.

He thought, ‘Who? What people?’

Blake looked completely baffled, but Stella clearly wasn’t about to explain anything. She just nudged Sebastian toward the elevator, with the Yates crew following behind, stone-faced like a lineup of male models.

Inside the elevator, when Stella glanced over, Blake instinctively straightened his back.

Stella had told him before, “The less others respect you, the more you should respect yourself.”

Stella handed him the thick stack of resignation letters, her face completely expressionless.

Blake took them quietly.

With a ding, the elevator doors opened on the first floor.

Blake was the first one out, and what he saw totally floored him.

He thought, ‘Wait, where the heck is the front door of lon Wing Drones?

‘Where’s my big and fancy revolving glass door? Where did it go?’

Stella came out a moment later, pushing Sebastian in his wheelchair.

Blake blurted out, “Stella, Mr. Gray, someone stole our front door!”

Stella stayed silent.

She thought, ‘No, it’s just shattered.’

The lobby of lon Wing Drones was jam-packed with hundreds of people, and even the upper floors were crowded with staff.

Ever since Blake took charge, he’d never made a public appearance as the boss in front of everyone.

Today was his first time.

Xander and Penelope stood on the second floor, watching the scene unfold below.

On a makeshift table, dozens of silver suitcases stuffed with cash sat quietly.

The employees who’d handed in their resignations stood there with smug faces, acting like their futures were
