Chapter 215

Sebastian was waiting for her on the couch.

Lucas was lying on his lap, looking soft and pale, sucking on his thumb as he slept soundly.

Stella shot a look toward Snowball in the tree.

Snowball thought, ‘Ah, Stella is asking me for help.’

Snowball, who had been lazily draped over the ornamental tree, darted down. The next moment, it collapsed onto the floor like a limp noodle, tongue hanging out, eyes rolled back, tail twitching.

Sebastian didn’t even look at it, his face totally deadpan. “Fake it again, and I’ll kill you.”

Snowball sprang up from the floor, shaking its head frantically, pitiful to look at.

Stella sighed to herself and walked toward Sebastian. “Go easy on Snowball, okay? You scared it.”

Snowball nodded with tearful eyes and gently rubbed its head against Stella’s hand in thanks.

Lucas rubbed his eyes and sat up. When he saw Stella, his eyes lit up. He ran into the kitchen and came back wobbling, carrying a bowl.

Lucas looked up, eyes still sparkling from sleep.

Sebastian said, “Grandma left you some milk. Finish it, then go wash up

Stella thought, ‘That’s all? I thought Sebastian would at least lose his cool.

Sebastian picked up the phone she had deliberately left on the bedroom table and set it down in front of her. He glanced up at her. “Next time you head out, make sure you take your phone.”

Their gazes met, and Sebastian added quietly, “If I can’t reach you, I’ll get

worried.”

Stella felt a tug on her sleeve. She looked down to see Lucas nodding eagerly, pulling out his writing board that hadn’t seen daylight in ages.

He held it up to his chest with both hands, showing her the word “Worried” boldly written across it, along with two cartoon figures resting their chins in their hands.

Lucas pointed at Sebastian, tapped one of the figures on the board, then pointed back at himself.

Seeing this, Snowball lifted its head, looking utterly wronged.

Stella said, “Okay.”

In the middle of the night, Stella was fast asleep after her shower, and Lucas curled up in her arms.

Face blank, Sebastian reached over and removed Lucas from her arms.

Lucas tumbled across the bed and landed on the far edge, looking a little dazed.

Sebastian glanced at Lucas and let out a quiet snort before settling down beside Stella, burying his face in her neck.

Sebastian thought, ‘She’s mine.’

He slept soundly through the night.

The next morning, Blake came downstairs yawning, only to see Xander sitting beside Kendrick in the living room of Pierce Manor.

He instantly swallowed his yawn, straightened his expression, and walked over. “Morning, Grandpa.”

Kendrick just grunted, but Xander gave Blake a friendly grin and called out, “Morning.”

Blake’s expression fell. He asked sincerely, “Can I ask you something?”

Xander handed the milk to Kendrick and said, “Go ahead.”

Blake said, “How do you have the nerve?”

He thought, ‘After everything that’s happened, how could he still act like nothing was wrong?’

Xander pretended not to hear him and turned to Kendrick with a smile. “Grandpa, the Pierce Group has been in talks with the Knight family lately. If the partnership goes through, it will take us to the next level.”

Kendrick just said, “Okay.”

He continued eating his breakfast at an unhurried pace.

Xander kept going. “The thing is, Jaxon-”

He glanced at Blake, deliberately acting as though he and Jaxon were on friendly terms. “He’s kind of aloof.”

Blake asked, “Jaxon?”

He thought, “That name sounds oddly familiar. I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere before.

Xander gave him a side-eye, oozing silent contempt. “Yeah, Jaxon. He’s the youngest boss of the Knight family in Jaffina. Of course, it’s understandable if you don’t know him, Blake.”

Blake thought, ‘Since when did Xander start talking in such a roundabout, cutting way? Guess hanging around Stella really does make me sharper’

With that thought, Blake picked up the remote and turned on the TV, unwilling to play along any further. He thought, ‘Guess I should stick with Stella more. Compared to people like this, she’s honestly so much better.’

Right at that moment, the business channel was playing an interview with Jaxon.

Xander couldn’t help but brag to Kendrick, grinning, “Grandpa, I had dinner with Jaxon the other day.”

However, Kendrick showed no interest.

The reporter on TV asked Jaxon, “Mr. Knight, out of all the top families in Haliville, is there anyone who really caught your eye?”

The reporter had intended the question to be about women.

Jaxon froze for a second, his expression getting kind of complicated.

Xander grinned and sat up a little straighter, feeling smug. He had heard that since arriving in Haliville, Jaxon had only dined with him. Surely, that meant his name would come up.

He glanced at Kendrick. He wanted him to see just how right it was to leave the Pierce Group in his hands.

Jaxon said, “The CEO of Ion Wing Drones, Mr. Blake Pierce.”

The host was stunned.

The Pierce family’s dining room fell into sudden silence. The maid with the flowers and the butler serving Kendrick breakfast both froze.

Xander’s smile froze.

Kendrick nearly dropped his breakfast.

Everyone’s eyes snapped to Blake.

Blake stared at the screen and patted his thigh. “Oh, it’s him.”
