Chapter 245
It was Camilla.
Stella waved her hand lazily and answered the call. She said, “Talk.”

Camilla’s voice on the other end was clearly tense, her words a bit muffled. She said, “Brantley’s detention was announced to the whole department. He’s been fired from his government job!”
Stella didn’t even bother to lift her eyelids, just replied coolly, “Oh.”
Camilla asked, “Oh? That’s it?”
Her voice suddenly went up an octave, almost screeching.
Stella slowly moved the phone away from her ear, her face totally unfazed. She asked, “Did you tell Brantley about it?”
Camilla blurted out, “Me? No way!”
She slumped onto the couch, cold sweat soaking her back, her mind in complete chaos.
Stella chuckled lightly. She asked, “Regretting it now?”
Camilla was kicking herself! She thought, ‘I never should’ve teamed up with Stella.’
Stella asked, “Aren’t you curious? How does a civil servant like Brantley afford to buy jewelry for Lauren? Where does he get the money for all that?”
Camilla started, “Obviously it’s because of-”
She stopped mid-sentence, her pupils contracting in alarm.
Stella didn’t press the issue.
Camilla took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. She continued, “Brantley trades stocks, and Vera gets him in on the Morris family’s deals. I know he’s got money!”
Stella said, “Go take a look at your property deed.”
With that, she hung up, leaned against the car, and idly fiddled with her phone, totally unfazed.
It wasn’t long before her phone started blowing up with calls.
Stella let Camilla stew for a while before finally picking up again.
Camilla snapped, “Why is my house mortgaged?”
She was grinding her teeth in fury.

She was on the verge of a meltdown!
This was an even bigger blow to Camilla than Brantley cheating on her.
Stella asked, “Regretting it now?”
She sounded totally indifferent.
Camilla fumed inwardly, ‘Regret? Hell no!’
She wanted to skin those two cheating bastards alive!
Camilla gritted her teeth and asked, “Fine, what do you want from me?”
Stella’s eyes flashed with an icy glare as she said, “Tell Brantley about it.”
Camilla cried out, “He’ll go crazy!”
Stella snorted with mockery. She thought, ‘She’s barely holding it together herself, and she’s worried about Brantley losing his mind?’
Stella said, “He won’t lose it. After thinking things through, he’ll tell you to go straight to Vera and demand that you both head over to the Gray family to negotiate.
“He’ll also hand you a fat stack of cash so you can buy Gray Group stocks at a dirt-cheap insider price. And the Morris family will get in on the action, too.”
Camilla asked, “You really think so?”
Stella smirked and said, “Because Brantley is dead sure this is the Carter and Morris families’ last chance to hit the jackpot!”
Camilla instinctively gripped the property deed, her heart racing, clueless that Stella was just chilling on the other end, eyes cold, acting like she owned the world.
Broderick was standing off to the side, not even daring to breathe.
Stella gave a little smile and said, “Go ahead.”
Camilla called out, “Wait.”
Stella, about to hang up, paused. She asked, “What now?”
Camilla was silent.
Stella could see right through her. She said, “If you’re thinking someone’s gonna bail Brantley out soon, forget it. He’s not getting out.”
With that, Stella hung up before Camilla could say another word.
Broderick said, “Stella…”

Stella said, “I’ll take care of Declan and Chadwick.”

Hearing that, Broderick finally relaxed. With Stella in charge, even if someone had one foot in the grave, she could drag them back if she wanted to.
Broderick’s eyes were brimming with tears as he whined, “Stella, I’m so moved!”
Stella kicked him right away.
Broderick dodged in a flash. If his protégés and students from law schools worldwide saw this, their jaws would drop!
To them, Broderick was the strict, legendary founder of the law department. How could he be acting like a spoiled child around a young girl?
Stella chuckled softly and said, “Scram!”
On the way back, Stella was absently twirling the fluffy peregrine falcon with her fingers, resting with her eyes closed.
Allan, meanwhile, had his head propped up on one hand, looking like he wanted to say something but kept hesitating.
Stella asked, “What’s on your mind?” She didn’t even open her eyes, her long lashes fanning out beneath them.
Allan’s eyes lit up instantly.
He said, “About that lightning.”
Stella lazily explained, “Wind speed, direction, humidity, temperature, and how the light bends-get the timing just right, and you can summon lightning, make it rain, even call the wind if you want.”
Allan asked, “And your forging skills?”
Stella glanced up and said, “It’s too much trouble to explain. Just think of it as something I learned on the fly.”
Allan cleared his throat, trying to act casual. He asked, “So, why does Broderick treat you so respectfully?”
Stella’s eyes landed on Allan’s face, and she gave a casual, almost teasing smile. She said, “Because I am his boss.”
When it was just the two of them, Stella dropped her usual icy front. She lounged back in the black leather seat, answering every one of Allan’s questions with surprising patience.
Allan nodded, a playful smirk on his lips.
There was an unspoken bond between them, the kind only true friends share.
Allan always knew which questions to dodge, like who taught her to call down lightning, where her medical skills came from, or what being a restoration master really meant.
