Chapter 247
“Are you alright?” Stella asked tentatively.
Nathan shot back, “What do you think?”
That was a soul-searching question.

Stella had to take back what she said earlier about Ivan being the most beat up. The real mess was sitting right here in the room.
Stella glanced over at Nathan’s face and said, “Man, you look like you’ve been through hell.”
Nathan had bloody tissue stuffed up both nostrils, one eye was swollen and bruised, and there was a nasty cut at the corner of his mouth. Even his own grandpa would need a minute to figure out who he was.
Nathan’s voice shot up. He said, “A little? Are you kidding me? This is a total disaster! I look absolutely wrecked!”
His eyes were literally tearing up.
Stella stared, bewildered.
Nathan blurted out, “Six of us! Not even six could pin Sebastian down!”
He held up six fingers at Stella.
He continued, “Those Yates guys could at least duck and cover, but where was I supposed to go?”
He was practically sobbing his eyes out as he spoke.
Nathan cried, “Why not just let the cops take me away? Or feed me to the snakes! I can’t do this anymore! Sebastian is killing me slowly here.”
Stella just stared in silence as the 6’1″ guy cried like a five-year-old who lost his candy, sniffling and tugging at those bloody tissues in his nose, nearly suffocating himself.
Stella was at a loss for words.
Her gaze drifted past Nathan to the space behind him, and her look got a bit weird.
“Ms. Carter, you have no idea! Sebastian is a total monster!” Nathan complained loudly.
He kept going on and on.
“You…” Stella began.
Nathan flailed his arms wildly. He added, “The kind that cats people alive!”
“Well…” Stella said.

Nathan turned his head and spat to the side, like some superstitious move to ward off bad luck, but he kept his voice low, looking all shifty and nervous. With that beat-up face, he looked even more pathetic.
Stella just shrugged, crossed her arms, and leaned lazily against the wall, letting Nathan ramble on.
“He chews people up and doesn’t even spit out the bones! Plus, he’s insanely petty and holds a grudge forever. If you ask me, he’s basically-” Nathan ranted.
Suddenly, a voice asked, “Basically what?”
Nathan’s voice cut off mid-sentence.
He froze, wide-eyed, staring at Stella, too scared to turn around. Carefully, he mouthed, “Behind me?” while she just leaned against the wall, looking totally relaxed.
Stella’s lips curled into a sly smile, a mischievous glint flashing in her eyes.
She raised her hand.
With a lazy flick of her finger, she pointed right over his shoulder.
Nathan gulped, throat bobbing.
In the dead silence, the sound of his gulp was crystal clear.
Sebastian sat in his wheelchair, a black mask covering his face, eyes sharp and icy. His voice was cold and cutting as he pressed, “Basically what?”
Nathan froze.
Stella, clearly enjoying the drama, wandered over to the kitchen counter, poured herself a glass of water with a lazy grin, and sipped it slowly. Her eyes danced with equal parts mischief and pity as she looked at Nathan.
She’d kept dropping hints for him earlier.
But did he listen? Nope.
Nathan thought, ‘Keep it together.
‘Come on, genius, do the math. What are my chances of making it out alive?’
With Sebastian’s icy stare burning into his back, Nathan suddenly shot up from his seat.
Stella thought for sure he was about to make a run for it, but instead, Nathan stepped forward with his shoulders hunched, head bowed, and hands clasped tightly in front of him.
Nathan said, “I was wrong.”
Talk about knowing when to fold: Nathan was the master of swallowing his pride if it meant staying alive!
Nathan blurted out, “Ms. Carter, seriously, Mr. Gray doesn’t eat people. He’s not petty, doesn’t hold grudges at

all! He’s the best guy ever. He even pays his taxes on time every year.”
He kept showering Sebastian with praise, giving him a big thumbs-up.

Stella calmly swallowed her water and walked over to Sebastian, holding her glass. “Look at you, scaring him half to death,” she teased, reaching out to pull down his black mask..
“Say ‘ah,” Stella said, pinching his cheek to show him what she meant.
Nathan shot Stella a desperate look, silently begging her not to poke the bear when Sebastian was already in a foul mood.
But before Stella could even catch his signal, Sebastian opened his mouth as Stella asked.
Stella frowned and asked, “Didn’t manage to yank it out?”
All she got in response was Sebastian’s shifty eyes darting around, and then he quickly slipped his mask back on, trying to act casual.
Sebastian grumbled, “Seriously, his technique sucks!”
Nathan groaned inwardly, ‘Seriously?’
Stella gave Nathan a blank stare, took a sip of water, and teased, “Really? Bad technique?”
Teary-eyed, Nathan just nodded, admitting defeat.
Stella chuckled and said, “Fine, let me handle it myself!”
Sebastian stared, totally thrown off.
With a click, Stella set her empty glass back on the counter, rolled up her sleeves, and was about to wash her hands. But before she could move, two hands beat her to it and grabbed her shirt from behind.
Still facing away from Sebastian, a sly smirk played at Stella’s lips.
Sebastian’s icy gaze zeroed in on Nathan, murder practically written all over his face.
“M-Ms. Carter,” Nathan stammered, voice shaking,
He threw his hand up as his life depended on it.
“What?” Stella questioned
“Please, let me have another shot! Dr. Trent’s ready for round two!” Nathan blurted out.
Stella asked, “You sure about that?”
Nathan nodded frantically. He said, “Absolutely! Mr. Gray will definitely let me redeem myself, right?”
Sebastian replied, “Yeah.”
