Chapter 250
Jake shouted, “Mrs. Gray!”
His voice was so loud it nearly blew the roof off.
:
Annette’s hand shook, and she almost had a heart attack from the shock!
“Why are you yelling?” she snapped, clutching her chest.

Jake forced a smile and said, “The season finale of that soap is on right now. You sure you don’t want to see who gets slapped before you drag Stella into this?”
As he spoke, he tiptoed forward, blocking the half-open door.
His dorky face was set with determination.
He swallowed hard.
Annette slapped her palm and exclaimed, “Oh my!”
Jake flinched in fright.
Annette said, “Come on! Downstairs!”
She didn’t say another word, just turned and marched downstairs.
Jake sneakily closed the door behind him and finally let out a huge sigh of relief.
Inside the room, Sebastian said, “Annette’s gone.”
Nobody answered him for a while.
He pulled back a corner of the blanket and saw Stella lying there, her long hair falling over his chest, her chin nestled against him. Her eyes were still closed as she muttered drowsily, “Five more minutes.”
Stella reached up, wrapped her arms around his neck, and buried herself in his embrace.
They fit together seamlessly.
Stella murmured, “Hold me, Sebastian.”
Now fully awake, Sebastian lowered his gaze. His hand, which had been resting on her waist, slid to her back, and with just one arm, he spanned her whole lower back, pulling her close.
Sebastian said softly, “Stella?”
Stella lazily mumbled, “Hmm?”
Sebastian asked, “Is this okay?”

Chapter 250
Stella murmured, “Mm.”
:
Their voices seemed to echo in their chests, both of them catching the sound at the same time.

With his other hand, Sebastian brushed her forehead, his palm cool to the touch. He gently swept her long hair aside, then planted soft, feather-light kisses at the corner of her eye, almost absurdly gentle.
Sebastian asked softly, “Stella?”
Stella, still half-asleep, mumbled, “Mm.”
Even though she was so tired she could barely open her eyes, she still answered him with genuine effort.
Sebastian asked softly, “Did you ever have someone you liked before?”
After a long pause with no answer, Sebastian felt storm clouds gathering above his head.
Thunder rumbled in his mind.
Stella’s long lashes fluttered as she opened her eyes, her chin still pressed against his chest. She let out a lazy yawn and shot back, “What does it even mean to like someone?”
Sebastian went quiet for a few seconds, really turning the question over in his mind.
Then he said, “When you like someone, whatever you get, your first instinct is to share it with them.” He softly stroked the back of her head, like he was comforting a little kid.
He continued, “Liking someone means she’s always on your mind, no matter what you’re doing. You worry if she’s had enough to eat, if anyone’s given her a hard time, or if she’s met someone new.”
Stella just quietly listened, her chin still nestled against his chest.
Sebastian said, “It’s hoping she’ll always take your hand when you reach out. It’s wanting to be the only one she sees and thinks about, but still wanting her to be free, even if it means letting go sometimes.”
He bent down and kissed the top of her head softly.
His hand moved slowly, fingers weaving tightly with hers, and he brought their joined hands to his chest. Beneath his palm, his heart was racing, totally out of rhythm.
He murmured, “To like someone is to live in constant fear that your own heartbeat might wake her in the morning.”
He gave a soft, husky laugh and asked, “Tell me, have you ever really liked someone before?”
Under the blanket, Sebastian wrapped himself around Stella like a vine, as if he were afraid she might slip
away at any moment.
He held his breath, waiting for her answer.
Stella gave his question some real thought.

She finally said, “Guess there’s no one special.”
Sebastian asked, “Guess?”
Stella gave a lazy little hum. She said, “Serpentina once told me that liking and loving someone are the most complicated things in the world. I hate complicated stuff, and I hate anything that’s a hassle.”
Sebastian let out a quiet laugh and hugged her even tighter. He said, “But ever since we met, all I’ve ever done is bring you trouble.”
Stella murmured, “But you’re not the same.”
Sebastian froze for a moment, then asked, “How am I different?”
Stella shot back, “You just are, okay?”
Flustered, she suddenly leaned in and bit his shoulder.
Sebastian winced.
He kept his hand cradling the back of her head, and even though it hurt, he just gently stroked her hair a couple of times. He couldn’t bear to push her away.
Stella claimed, “You’re mine!”
She let go, leaving a deep bite mark on his shoulder: a possessive little brand.
The air between them turned thick and sticky.
Sebastian let out a soft laugh and said, “You’re wild.”
Stella went for his collarbone, biting down again. She said, “You’re mine!”
