Sebastian pressed his lips together, his black shirt hugging his frame, an intimidating aura that demanded respect, even in silence.

Later, with purposeful strides, his long legs carried him toward stella. He placed his hand in hers, but his voice was cold. He said, “I’ll deal with him first before we go back.” Clearly, he wasn‘ about to let this go.

Emerson’s heart sank to the bottom.

Stella just gave a nonchalant nod and said, “Okay, I’m heading out then.” She waved and turned to leave, only to catch Jake peeking out, all sneaky–like, his head poking around the doorframe.

That comical shiner was still on his right eye.

Jake was stunned for a moment.

His face was pure awkwardness.

With a whoosh, he yanked his big head back in.

Stella walked past him, totally unfazed, even yawning lazily as she went.

Inside the hospital room, Sebastian fell silent.

His icy gaze lingered on his empty hand, expression cold as stone. The air grew heavy, storm–brewing. He turned his dark, threatening eyes toward Dexter on the floor. Before Sebastian could act, Emerson stepped forward to shield his brother.

“Mr. Gray, I swear I’ll keep him under control. What happened today won’t ever happen again,” Emerson said, his voice steady and every word heavy with resolve.

Emerson spoke with deliberate, unwavering seriousness.

John cleared his throat and straightened up, glancing at the empty hallway. He said, “Mr. Gray, if you don’t hurry, you’ll miss Ms. Carter.”

Sebastian was speechless.

In the hospital corridor, Stella walked ahead, one hand hanging bose, the other shoved in her pocket, taking her sweet time.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed from behind.

Just as the corners of her mouth started to lift, Sebastian’s cool hand reached out from behind and locked their fingers together.

Sebastian frowned, his brows knitting together. He asked, “You’re not mad?”

Stella tossed her motorcycle keys to Jake, her voice lingering with a lazy drawl. “Hm?” She was a beat slow to react, but since it was Sebastian asking, she actually answered with some patience, “It’s alright.”

She sounded completely nonchalant.

Sebastian asked, “That’s it?”

Stella paused mid–step and glanced over at him. She said, “He just mouthed off, but I kicked and broke his leg.”

John and Jake fell silent.

They thought, ‘She was so nonchalant with it.‘

On Sandridge Island villa, Allan said, “Lucas,” glancing at his watch.

Lucas turned to look at him, his little face all serious.

Allan said, “We’ve been sitting here for three hours and twenty–eight minutes. How much longer is this gonna take?”

He really had to go.

Lucas poked again.

Big Ben said, “Stella’s back.”

Allan didn’t know what to say for a moment.

‘This is torture,’ Allan thought.

Perched atop the landscape tree, Snowball was curled up in a fluffy ball, lazily flicking the tip of his tail. Suddenly, it stopped mid–flick.

Snowball lifted its head.

Lucas’s eyes lit up. He sprang off the couch and raced to the door. As for Allan, he made a beeline for the bathroom; he just couldn’t hold it anymore.

As soon as Stella walked in, Lucas, the clingy little guy, smooshed her in a big hug, his tiny hands tugging at her skirt.

She glanced down.

There was Lucas, dressed in the Edenbury Kindergarten uniform that had just arrived this afternoon. He looked up at her with starry eyes, his soft, chubby cheeks practically begging for praise.

Lucas thought, ‘Matching. I had a matching uniform, just like Stella’s.

He spun around in circles.

But in the blink of an eye, Lucas was scooped up and suddenly found himself staring Sebastian right in the eyes.

Lucas dangled, swinging side to side.

Lucas tilted his head, blinking in confusion.

Sebastian shot his nephew a frosty glare, but Lucas puffed up and glared right back, refusing to back down.

Sparks practically crackled in the air between them.

“Stella,” Allan called out as he walked over, “Annette saved some sweet soup for you in the kitchen.”

He sniffed the air.

Allan made a face, asking, “Where have you guys been? You reek of disinfectant.”

Stella reached out and gave Lucas’s cheek a gentle pinch, then slipped off her school jacket. “Hospital,” she said, heading upstairs. She needed a shower first; she still had to deal with Professor Cipher’s mess later.

Half an hour later, Stella found Lucas, freshly washed, sitting on the bed with his chin in his hands, eyes sparkling. Nearby, Snowball wore the little shark hat Ivan had knitted, so bored he pretended to swallow Big Ben’s large, round head whole.

Stella sighed helplessly.

The ultra–thin custom laptop sitting on the bed suddenly chime. Stella, totally unfazed, reached over and tapped the keyboard. The screen switched, and she was instantly on a video call with Professor Cipher.

On the other end, the view was stunning. Blue skies, fluffy clouds and a sandy beach lined with palm trees. Five elders were sprawled out on beach chairs, each chilling with a coconut in hand.

Stella sighed helplessly.

Professor Cipher said, “Stella.” The moment he spoke, the other our snapped upright, all poking their heads toward the camera, scrambling to see where Stella was.

Stella gave a cold, mocking laugh.

Lucas poked his soft, chubby head out of Stella’s arms, letting out a curious sound.

His big eyes blinked with curiosity.

“Who’s this little one?” Serpentina asked. Her eyes sparkled, her white hair and rosy cheeks making her look even more lively.

Stella replied, “My son.”

As she spoke, she pulled up an academic site she hadn’t accessed in years, fingers flying across the keyboard to enter her credentials. Meanwhile, the stunned old legends on the other end of the call found her words utterly jaw–dropping.
