Caleb and Murray shared a look. They had no clue what Professor Cipher or online class was about, but they still didn’t dare say a word.

Stella said, “Yeah, she’s with me.”

She propped herself up on the conference table, shot Cassie a look, and beckoned her over.

Cassie narrowed her eyes, but under Stella’s intimidating gaze, she still walked over. The next second, she felt a sudden itch on her scalp, and a few strands of her hair had been snatched up and twisted around Stella’s fingers.

Cassie was speechless.

‘Did she just pull my hair?‘ Cassie thought, utterly shocked.

“Wait in the lobby. I’m coming down now,” Stella said, hanging up with one hand. She gave Cassie’s shoulder a meaningful pat. “Don’t be late for the press conference tomorrow.”

With that, Stella walked over to Cookie. “Your dad’s here,” she sail, her voice casual and tired.

Cookie huffed.

The little girl tilted her head, looking all sweet and babyish.

But before the little one could protest again, Stella scooped her up and headed straight for the door.

Cookie draped herself over Stella’s shoulder, stretching out her little arms toward Cassie with big, pleading eyes. She said, “Save Cookie.”

Cassie’s heart melted, and she was just about to say something when Stella, sensing it, glanced back at her with a sly, almost- smile. She said, “Whatever’s left, we’ll deal with it after tomorrow

Cassie was speechless.

In the elevator, Stella calmly slipped Cassie’s hair into a clear plastic bag. When she looked down, she met Cookie’s wide, sparkling eyes.

Cookie raised her hand and pointed at the bag. She said, “Cookie wants some, too.”

With that, she pulled out a few strands of her own hair.

Stella was speechless.

Cookie’s soft, apple–like cheeks puffed up as she offered her hair She said, “Here.”

Stella asked, “Do you know what this is?”

Cookie replied firmly, “Nope.”

Stella sighed helplessly.

Stella calmly tucked it into another little bag. She asked, “Jaxon giving you a hard time?”

Cookie glanced up at her and let out a dramatic sigh.

She shook her head twice for emphasis.

Cookie nibbled on her bunny candy. She said, “Cookie hates…” She echoed the word over and over like a little broken record, her brows scrunched up in confusion, clearly struggling to remember the name.

Stella said, “Eulalia.”

Cookie’s eyes lit up. She said, “Exactly.”

The elevator doors slid open.

Jaxon, in a crisp suit, turned with his usual icy look while his bodyguard was briefing him.

“Daddy,” Cookie said. As soon as Cookie saw Jaxon, she threw her arms wide and scampered over. Stella stood with her hands in her pockets, watching as Jaxon scooped Cookie up, his face finally softening.

Jaxon stayed deadpan and said, “Ms. Carter.”

Stella just grunted in response, but as she walked past him, something seemed to cross her mind. She asked, “Is the Knight family really planning to marry into the Porter family?”

Jaxon said, “This has nothing to do with you, Ms. Carter.”

Stella didn’t seem fazed by his answer. She asked, “You know the Porter family has an eldest daughter, right?”

Jaxon’s face didn’t change. He asked, “You mean Cassy?”

Both Cassie’s names sound the same, but they were written with different characters.

For Jaxon, though, those names meant two completely different people.

Stella gave a small smile, saying, “That’s right, she’s back. You’ll meet her tomorrow.” She didn’t bother waiting for Jaxon’s response and just walked on by.

“Ms. Carter,” Jaxon called out from behind.

Stella glanced back, looking totally unfazed.”

“I heard about Declan from Broderick. Thanks,” Jaxon said.

Stella just nodded, didn’t bother replying, and headed out of the hotel.

Fresh from the operating table, Emily stretched her stiff shoulders. She’d ordered takeout over five hours ago, her appetite long gone. Opening the door, she saw the steaming food and Stella sitting there, utterly in command. Emily nearly cried. “Stella,” she called.

Stella propped her chin on one hand and nudged the pasta she’d picked up on the way over. She said, “Do me a favor?” Emily dragged over a chair and sat down. She said, “Spill it.”

“Can you run a paternity test for me?” Stella said, sliding two sealed, clear plastic bags across the table. Her tone was so casual, it almost made Emily choke on her bun in shock.

Chapter 299

Emily coughed, pounding her chest. She asked, “What is this?”

Stella slid a glass of water over to her and said, “Paternity test.”

Emily was shocked.

She took a few sips of water, trying to calm herself down.

“Wait, are those cheesy romance stories actually true? So Lucas is really your love child with Sebastian?” Emily asked. Her eyes went wide as if she’d cracked the code. “You lost your memory and totally forgot you had a kid.”

Stella shot her a complicated look, asking, “Seriously, what goes on in that brain of yours?”

Emily winked and made a kissy face. She replied, “Just thinking about you.”

Stella sighed helplessly.

Emily asked, “Did I make your heart skip a beat?”

Stella sighed helplessly.

Emily burst out laughing, flopping onto the table with the two bags and said, “I’ll get my colleague to run the test. You’ll have the results by tomorrow morning, so you can go with Sebastian and not worry about a thing.”

“Huh?” Stella asked. Her tone lifted in surprise.

Seeing her reaction, Emily arched her brows, asking, “Wait, you didn’t come with Sebastian? I saw his car downstairs.” She gestured toward the door, looking genuinely surprised.

Stella was utterly confused.

Her chin still resting on her hand, Stella paused as if something just clicked, then got to her feet. She said, “Call me when you get the results. I’m heading out.”

Emily was speechless.

Staring at the now–empty doorway, it finally dawned on Emily. Stella had been wearing her school uniform this whole time.

Downstairs, she spotted Jake and casually draped a hand over his shoulder from behind. But Jake spun around, eyes sharp and ready to grab whoever dared sneak up on him. The second le saw it was Stella, his pupils shrank in disbelief.

“Shit,” Jake blurted out.

Stella just lifted her hand lazily and brushed his move aside like was nothing.

Jake was stunned for a moment.
