Stella paused in her work and looked up to see Landen stomping around like an angry old dragon, huffing and puffing. ranting nonstop, “I’m so mad. I could just blow up.”

Nathan shuffled along behind, looking totally defeated. But as he walked past Fabian, something caught his eye. Nathan suddenly shouted, “Grandpa, look!” In pure shock, he yanked Landen by the arm.

“Grandpa my ass!” Landen snapped. Still fuming, he followed Nathan’s pointing finger. What he saw made his blood run cold, his jaw dropping so far it seemed to unhinge. Landen roared, “Stop! Hands off, I said.”

Fabian jumped in surprise, his hand trembling. The book slipped from his grip, teetering on the edge of falling.

Landen, who normally moved at a snail’s pace, suddenly shot forward. He stumbled, almost tripping over himself, and tumbled right to Fabian’s feet.

Landen snatched up the old, yellowed, and musty book. He collapsed to the ground, tears welling in his eyes. “I can’t believe it,” he choked out. “It’s the lost Medicine Compendium!”

Fabian was stunned. “This old guy is really leaving me dumbfounded, Fabian thought.

Landen glanced at Fabian and kipped up from the floor. He barked, “Move!” He tried to shove away Fabian, who was all muscle. Fabian didn’t even flinch. Landen ended up stumbling back three steps himself, and he just lost for words.

Landen cleared his throat, then strutted off with his stubby legs, all puffed up and proud. Instead of confronting Fabian, he deliberately sidestepped him and made a beeline straight for the drying rack.

‘My precious, here I come!’ Landen thought, practically drooling

Landen bounced around like a wild old monkey in front of the drying rack. “This is the Flying Needle Treatise, and that is the Ancient Pharmacopoeia.” He just kept rambling on and on.

Meanwhile, Jake stared at the battered, yellowed book in his hands, then looked up at Sebastian. A knot of nerves tightened in his throat, forcing him to swallow. His hand visibly shook.

Jake looked like he was on the verge of tears. “John, what should do now?”

John gave him an icy sneer. “Idiot.”

Allan, hugging his precious Obsidian Orchid, was cackling nonstop as he watched the thing. Now he finally understood the twisted pleasure Sebastian must’ve felt watching him embarrass himself back then.

“What’s going on?” Stella set her pen down, moving with effortless grace, so chill it was almost mesmerizing.

Landen looked up, his face froze mid-smile. The next second, rage flared in his eyes. He totally forgot about the precious medical books and rushed straight to Stella.

He said, “Dr. Miracle, the members of the Traditional Medicine Association were total jerks.” But when he caught Stella’s icy stare and remembered Lucas was still there, he choked back the insult just in time.

“Someone leaked the news that you’re leading the team to the International Herbal Medicine Conference, and now those old farts are raising hell at the board meeting.” Landen’s blood boiled with anger.

Stella merely gave him an indifferent glance, as if nothing serious had transpired. She picked up her pen again, without batting an eye.

Landen’s eyes went wide. “Dr. Miracle, they’re calling you a little rat.”

Stella nodded. “Whatever.”

“Aren’t you even mad?”

“People talk trash all the time. Am I supposed to get mad at every single one?” Stella didn’t see any reason to get upset. She kept writing, her strokes bold and unrestrained, like a true master at work.

Landen stuck out his wobbly old finger at Stella, voice shaking. How can you be so chill?”

Lucas puffed up his cheeks and playfully slapped Landen’s hand away.

The next second, Landen flopped to the ground, hugging the books for dear life. “I don’t care. Dr. Miracle, if you don’t come with me to face off against those geezers, I’ll go down with these books. We’ll perish together!”

‘This is a one-of-a-kind treasure. Bet you’re scared now!’ Landen thought smugly, ignoring the weird silence around him.

Not far away, Simba, who’d just been spoon-fed by Scrappy until it was stuffed, shuffled over. Around its neck was a pale yellow bib with little white flowers stitched on. No doubt it was Ian’s work. He was totally into that cutesy, girly vibe.

“Grandpa!” Nathan shouted and stared at Simba as it lumbered closer, his eyes practically popping out of his head. He is totally losing it.

“I’m not listening.” Landen squeezed his eyes shut and rolled around on the floor, acting like a stubborn old kid throwing a fit.

Suddenly, something knocked against his shoulder. “Move it!” Landen shoved it away, grumbling to himself.

He thought, ‘Nobody’s getting through to me today unless Dr. Miracle gives in.

Simba cocked its head, checking out the unfamiliar human in front of it. It sniffed at Landen and let out a big yawn. It was so full from eating. It just couldn’t hold back that yawn.

‘Huh?’ Landen thought, suddenly puzzled. He opened his eyes, only to be greeted by a giant, fluffy face looming right in front of him. ‘Wait. What is this?”

Then, Landen freaked out. ‘I was just trying to throw a tantrum. Nobody said I’d get swallowed. Does everyone on this island really want me dead?’ His eyes rolled back, and he just fainted on the spot.

Nathan panicked and rushed over, shouting, “Grandpa!”

A hush fell over everyone. Simba then broke the quiet with a high-pitched, cutesy voice.

John looked at Landen, who was out cold on the floor, stiff as a plank. “Mr. Gray, let’s just feed him to the tiger,” he said, thinking it was more eco-friendly.

‘John, you little punk. Playing dirty, huh?’ Landen cursed him ou in his head.

Worried Sebastian might actually say yes, Landen came back to fe with a pitiful groan. “Oh. Trust me, I’m all bones and gristle. Not delicious at all.” While talking, he pointed at John. “Et him instead! He’s way tastier.”

John rolled his eyes. Clearly, there was some old grudge between them.
