On the road, Landen kept sneaking glances at Stella in the rearview mirror. He thought he was being sneaky, but it was painfully obvious. They were on their way to the Traditional Medicine Association.
They were going to pick a new team to fly to Tongalia tomorrow afternoon for the International Herbal Medicine Conference.
“Had enough of staring?” Stella asked, her tone flat.
Lucas was clearly worn out, fast asleep on her lap, his little hand till holding tight to Stella’s.
Landen trailed off, as if there was more he couldn’t bring himself to say.
Stella lifted her lashes and slowly opened her eyes. “If you have something to ask, just ask.” She looked completely calm and relaxed, as if nothing in the world could bother her.
Landen zipped right up to Stella. “Dr. Miracle, who are you, really?” he blurted out, pulling a handful of pills from his pocket and crunching them one by one like they were candy.
You did surgery on Paul. You even have Vermilion Coral and Vitalis Pills. You can crack the Compendium of Medicinal Plants. You helped out Victor and Levi, and that’s not even the half of it.”
She can even authenticate paintings and write in different scripts with both hands at once. And she had that ancient vermilion wax.
Landen kept chattering away, barely pausing for breath. He had very little thing memorized, clear as day. “Wait. Let me guess. Landen suddenly narrowed his eyes. He stared at Stella.
Stella said, “Then, guess.” She was genuinely curious to hear what kind of crazy theory Landen had about her identity.
Landen leaned in, all mysterious. “You’re wearing a human skin mask, aren’t you?” As he said it, he reached out to pinch her cheek, trying to check for himself.
Stella froze. I really shouldn’t have trusted how this old guy’s mind works,’ she thought. Her expression remained completely blank.
Landen suddenly lost for words. Under Stella’s icy stare, he let out an awkward chuckle, quickly pulled his hand back, and sat up straight, all well-behaved, like a kid caught misbehaving in kindergarten.
“Didn’t Nathan tell you?” Stella asked.
Landen wondered, ‘Wait. What? Has that little rascal been hiding things from me?’
“Tell me what?” Landen snapped, his white beard bristling as he glared at her.
Stella lounged back in the leather seat, half-smirking. “Yeah, I’m Shark.” She was totally laid-back, not a hint of tension anywhere.
Landen paused. A moment later, he just lost it, his old face crinking up in a huge grin as he burst out laughing. He laughed so hard he had to cover his mouth.
Stella smirked. “Is it really that funny?”
Landen nodded furiously, his head pumping up and down. “If I were a 12-year-old girl, I would totally believe that you were Shark.”
Landen was absolutely cracking up. His laughter was so loud, it even woke Lucas, who glared at him in pure annoyance.

“Dr. Miracle, you can tell me these crazy stories all you want, just don’t go running your mouth to anyone else, alright?” Landen wheezed, clutching his stomach. He was laughing so hard he could barely breathe.
Stella thought, ‘Fine. Whatever.’ She turned her gaze to the window, not bothering to explain herself at all.
Suddenly, Stella’s phone started ringing. It was an unknown caller from overseas. She just stared at the phone, her face blank.
Lucas looked up, blinking in confusion, and poked her with his tiny hand. “Answer it,” he mumbled, his voice all sleepy and
cute.
Stella gave a soft “hum” and answered the call.
“Do you like the roses?” The voice on the other end was deep, playful, with a teasing undertone.
Stella’s face didn’t change as she hung up immediately.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the line, Killer Whale didn’t say anything. He gave an amused laugh and swapped out his SIM card. He dialed her number again, but it barely rang once before she blocked him.
Killer Whale swapped out yet another SIM card and dialed her up again. He was clearly enjoying himself, and only when he figured the timing was just right did he finally shoot her a text.
Killer Whale: [Flight MGS57.]
In the car, Stella stared coldly at the text, and Landen instantly felt her whole aura turn frigid and terrifying. He choked back his laughter, suddenly too scared to make a sound.
“Dr. Miracle, did something happen?” Landen stammered, his voice full of nerves.
Stella didn’t reply. She just raised her hand and knocked on the soundproof partition. Soon after, the soundproof partition slid up.
“Ms. Carter?” Fabian called out, sounding a little confused.
Stella said, “Take me to the airport.”
Killer Whale was never one for pointless moves. The flight he texted her was the Monterra-to-Haliville flight today, and if she was remembering correctly, it still had about an hour and a half before landing.
Landen was shocked. “The airport?”
‘Weren’t we heading to the Traditional Medicine Association? Why are we suddenly going to the airport? Did the plans for Tongalia change?’ Landen thought, his mind racing.
Meanwhile, Fabian didn’t hesitate for a second. He followed Stella’s orders without question. “Alright.”
Stella ignored Landen and called Sebastian. “Sebastian, get the military to lock down Haliville Airport. No one gets out.” Her gaze turned cold.
Landen’s heart skipped a beat out of nervousness.
*****
Allan took off his glasses. He thought, ‘Was that Stella calling just now? Sebastian’s whole vibe dropped to absolute zero. And the very next second, he heard Sebastian calling the military commander,
Allan asked, “What’s going on?”
