Stella shot Cedar a slow, unhurried look.

Cedar, who’d been getting a little too cocky, instantly sobered up. He even gave one of the thugs on the ground a swift kick. He cursed, “Pathetic! What a bunch of losers!”
He fumed inwardly, ‘How dare they lay a hand on Stella?’
Soleil stared at her thugs sprawled all over the ground; her jaw practically hit the floor. She demanded, “Do you even know who I am?”
Stella arched an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed.
Emily spoke up from the side.
She said, “Yeah, we know.”
Callum nodded and chimed in, “Aren’t you Quinto’s daughter and his little apprentice from the Herbal Medicine Guild?”
They exchanged a look and said in perfect sync, “Soleil!”
Guess that crash course on the plane came in handy after all.
“Since you know who I am, you should also know what happens when you cross me!” Soleil sneered, taking a bold step forward, chin raised with a haughty look. She said, “Hand over the book, or else—”
But before Soleil could finish, Stella’s icy hand clamped down on her jaw, her fingers pressing into Soleil’s cheek.
Stella asked, “Or else what?”
The beads on her wrist jingled softly with every movement.
Soleil had never been treated like this in her life.
She was furious and humiliated.
“Spider,” Soleil forced the word through gritted teeth, shooting Stella, who remained icy and aloof, a vicious glare.
As soon as Soleil finished speaking, something crawled out from beneath her long hair.
It was a palm-sized, jet-black, venomous spider.
Soleil’s smile twisted into something wicked.
She’d raised that spider herself since she was a kid, feeding it a hundred different kinds of poisonous plants. It was insanely venomous.

Chapter 389
Emily’s expression shifted instantly, and she tried to rush over.
But she felt something nudge at the hem of her skirt.
Lucas looked completely calm. He looked up at Emily with those bright, sparkling eyes.
It was like his gaze was saying, “Don’t interfere.”

Emily thought, ‘Am I hallucinating? Why does it feel like Mr. Gray is sitting right here? Seriously, Sebastian and Lucas are practically clones.’
Ansel frowned and asked, “Should we go out there?”
The spider was jet black and looked deadly. It scrambled up Stella’s arm in a flash. If that thing bit her, she’d be a goner for sure.
Torin held out his hand to block Ansel. Torin said, “Wait a second.”
Stella still had her hand clamped on Soleil’s face, the bracelet dangling loosely from her wrist. Even as that massive, sinister-looking venomous spider crept toward her shoulder, she remained completely unfazed, her expression as cold as ever.
“You’re scared, aren’t you?” Soleil sneered, her smile full of malice.
Soleil thought Stella was frozen in fear.
Hearing that, Cedar couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
Stella looked at Soleil with a lazy, faint smile. She said, “Yeah. I’m scared to death.”
Soleil said, “If you’re scared, then hurry up and let go-” Her words died in her throat. Her eyes went wide as something darted out from Stella’s hair, and in an instant, her spider got its head viciously clamped down by Blackie.
Blackie had been eyeing that tasty treat for ages.
Soleil shrieked, “No!”
Everyone was stunned into silence.
In less than three seconds, Blackie had already torn apart and gulped down Soleil’s precious black spider, the one she’d spent over a decade raising. Then, it perched itself on Stella’s shoulder, its eyes glinting with an icy, bone-chilling stare at Soleil.
It bared its tiny, sharp fangs.

On Medicine Mountain, it was deadly quiet.
Not even a single bug dared to make a sound.

Chapter 389
In the darkness, cold, unfeeling eyes snapped open.
In a flash, they narrowed into sharp, slitted pupils: dangerous and predatory.

Its massive body coiled and slithered, and right in the center, a dark, ghostly flower sat, its bud tightly closed, just waiting to burst open.
Stella released Soleil’s face, her dazzling smile lighting up the night. It was so stunning that it was almost unreal. “The book’s mine,” she declared, her gaze sweeping over the chaos on the ground. She added, “Take your people and get lost.”
Soleil’s lips quivered with fury. Calling her angry face ‘ugly’ would be an understatement.
“You’ll regret this!” she spat, each word dripping with venom.
Stella just gave a cold, mocking smile.
The next moment, her hand shot out and locked around Soleil’s neck.
Soleil’s black dress whipped around her as she was yanked off her feet; she’d never felt death so close before.
Stella slammed Soleil against the wall, full force.
Soleil’s throat crackled under Stella’s tightening grip.
Soleil’s thugs, broken and battered, struggled to haul themselves up and shouted in anger, “Stop! Let go of Ms. Wilkerson!”
Stella didn’t even bother to look their way.
Her smile was icy and indifferent, nowhere near her eyes.
Blackie, perched on Stella’s shoulder, shot Soleil a chilly, deadpan look before slithering down and coiling tightly around her neck.
Stella let go, watching as Soleil clawed desperately at her throat, gasping for breath.
Stella’s voice was icy as she spat, “Here’s a word of advice for you, Ms. Wilkerson.”
In a flash, Stella’s face went completely blank, all emotion wiped away.
She added, “Don’t mistake kindness for weakness.”
On the way back to the hotel, Stella strolled ahead, holding Lucas’s hand.
Cedar trailed behind, sticking close. He said, “Stella, we’ve got a tail.”
He glanced back over his shoulder.
