Shadows Between Us (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 388

Chapter 388

:

Stella didn’t even turn around. She just raised her hand and caught the man’s hand.

Her long lashes lifted, her gaze icy cold.

It was like a chill had frozen the air.

Stella said, “If you want to talk, just talk. Keep your hands to yourself.”

Her voice was icy cold.

Emily and Callum thought, ‘Is this really just about getting handsy?

‘Something big is about to go down.’

Both of them could feel the sudden shift in Stella’s aura.

Emily, especially, was instantly reminded of that moment in the hotel lobby.

She gulped.

With her eyes downcast, Stella slowly turned around.

The man couldn’t break free, forced to crouch as his bones audibly snapped. He let out a piercing scream of pain.

Stella released her grip, and the man collapsed to the ground, clutching his hand and writhing in agony.

He couldn’t even get up.

As if something just popped into her mind, Stella looked down at Lucas and said, “Don’t tell Sebastian I got into a fight.”

Lucas nodded like crazy.

Stella pinched his cheek and said, “Good boy.”

Stella shot a glance to the side.

Callum and Emily instantly started shaking their heads in sync. They said together, “Not! A! Word!”

Torin hesitated, “Is it just me, or…”

Ansel finished his sentence for him, “Was Ms. Carter just looking at us?”

They both fell silent again.

“Got a problem?” Stella asked. She glanced carelessly at the woman in the black dress.

The woman looked to be in her twenties, with striking features, looking both wealthy and arrogant.

Emily and Callum were both stunned when they recognized her face.

The woman in a black dress was Soleil, Quinto’s apprentice and youngest daughter.

Soleil reached out and said, “I saw that book first! Give it back to me!”

Almost the moment she reached out, her crew had already closed in, surrounding Stella and her crew.

Emily felt a tug at her hem and looked down.

Lucas, who’d just been all adorable and soft, was now dead serious as he stared up at her. He pointed to the side, signaling Emily to move over.

Then Lucas turned his head to Callum, signaling him to follow.

Callum and Emily stepped aside for now, and Lucas followed behind at his own leisurely pace, not forgetting to flash Stella a cute little heart with his fingers.

Stella gave a small smile, but when she turned her gaze back to Soleil, her face went blank again. She demanded, “Does your name happen to be on that book?”

Soleil started to retort, “You-”

As Tongalia’s most renowned Herbal Medicine master, Soleil had been pampered by everyone since childhood, thanks to her father. She’d never been snubbed like this in her life.

“Isn’t it just about money? However much you paid, I’ll give you ten times more!” Soleil said, pulling out a wad of cash from her Hermès bag, and tossed it right at Stella’s feet. Money fluttered everywhere before hitting the floor.

Soleil added, “As you could even read that stupid book!”

Stella snickered. She echoed, “Stupid book?”

She locked eyes with Soleil and said, “Isn’t that book the Grand Medicine Manuscript?”

Soleil’s eyes went wide in shock.

Never in a million years did she expect anyone else to recognize this thing.

Legend had it that back in ancient Clusia, the imperial medical academy had thirteen departments, and Grand Medicine was the last and most mysterious one.

The Grand Medicine Manuscript was the most secretive and hardest-to-crack branch of ancient Clusian medicine. Even the legendary Soul-Settling Needle technique that everyone whispered about was said to have come straight from this very book.

If Soleil hadn’t gone to study at a Clusian medical college and randomly come across a mention of this book in the library, she would’ve never even heard about this legendary ancient book.

Too bad, it had been lost to history long ago.

Clusia never made any official mention of the Grand Medicine Manuscript to outsiders.

Soleil never imagined in a million years that this legendary book would actually turn up right here at home.

Especially now, with everyone fighting over who really started Herbal Medicine.

Soleil thought, ‘If I can get my hands on this book, it will send Dad straight to the top and finally put Tongalia’s Herbal Medicine on the map for good.’

Soleil kept hanging around that stall, checking and rechecking, but still couldn’t make up her mind. She snapped photos and kept messaging her dad, Quinto, which ended up wasting a ton of time.

The vendor back then was an old man, and when she tried to go back for him, he was nowhere to be found.

That delay dragged on for a whole two weeks.

Who would’ve thought that when the stall finally popped up again today, the vendor had been swapped out for some young face?

After asking around, Soleil found out the old man had hurt his leg, so his grandson was running the stall for him. That was why she missed her chance, and now Stella had snatched it up.

Soleil pressed her lips together, her gaze darkening. She said, “Guess we’re not making a deal, are we?”

Stella raised an eyebrow lazily and said, “Yeah, I’d say so.”

Soleil gave a cold, mocking laugh. She said, “Like you have a say in this.” With a single glance toward Lucas, her crew immediately started closing in on him.

Soleil watched Stella closely, hoping to spot even the slightest flicker of fear on her face.

“Still not coming out?” Stella said with a lazy drawl, “Thanks for shadowing us all this way.”

Torin and Ansel exchanged a glance, just about to step out, when, right then, a man in a black trench coat, black baseball cap, and mask stepped out first from the other side.

Torin and Ansel thought, ‘Damn it!

‘We have been following Stella the whole way and never even noticed this guy.

‘That could only mean one thing: this guy is way out of our league when it comes to fighting.
