Shadows Between Us (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 392

Chapter 392

Truett’s mentor said, “Mr. Woodruff, this is Truett, the student I mentioned to you!”

Though the professor was a bit confused as to why the unpredictable leader had gone straight for his student before he could even make the introduction, it was still a win for his reputation.

With everyone shooting him envious looks, he couldn’t help but puff out his chest a little.

But just as he finished speaking, the leader suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Everyone nearby was confused.

Just then, Quinto came down the stairs, with Carmelo and a few others trailing behind.

Soleil was totally mesmerized. She’d never met a guy with such class before.

Everyone knew who Quinto was.

He claimed to be the top dog in Tongalia’s Herbal Medicine world, even founding the Herbal Medicine Guild just to challenge Clusia Traditional Medicine head-on.

Over the years, he was always hustling to snatch up cultural heritage titles before anyone else.

He’d shamelessly go around telling everyone that Clusia Traditional Medicine actually started in Tongalia, and it was basically just their Herbal Medicine rebranded.

People thought, ‘Seriously, what a shameless clown.

‘He should check his own country’s timeline before bragging.’

The whole Penn School scandal was a huge deal. When Paul’s hand was ruined, it basically set Clusia’s acupuncture world back twenty years. And with his top disciple betraying him, Penn’s Acupuncture was pretty much doomed.

As they looked at Carmelo, now sporting chestnut-dyed hair and standing behind Quinto, the big shots from Western medicine circles couldn’t hide their disdain.

They remembered him back when he was still called Callen.

They sneered inwardly, ‘Does he really think just dyeing his hair and slapping on a vice president title is enough to fool anyone?

‘What a joke!’

“Mr. Woodruff!” Quinto called out, unfazed by the curious stares. Dressed in Tongalia’s signature outfit and steadying himself with Carmelo’s support, he stood tall with a confident smile.

People thought, ‘So that’s why Mr. Woodruff stopped. He was waiting for Quinto all along’ someone realized.

Carmelo kept his eyes darting around, avoiding the Clusia crowd. Plenty of them were people he’d once greeted alongside Paul, and now, being here made him feel seriously uneasy, like he was being called out for his betrayal.

Out of the blue, he shivered.

His gut told him someone’s icy gaze was fixed right on him.

He looked over and locked eyes with Stella, her deep amber eyes cold and piercing.

At that moment, Carmelo felt like he was a sitting duck out here, caught in the crosshairs of a hunter with a loaded gun.

The room was deadly quiet.

Soleil called out, “Mr. Woodruff.” She reached out shyly, trying to get noticed, but he didn’t even look her way. He walked right past both Quinto and Soleil without a second thought.

Soleil bit her lower lip, turning her head to keep her eyes on him as he moved away.

Everyone was utterly confused.

They thought, ‘What the heck just happened?

‘So Mr. Woodruff wasn’t stopping for Quinto after all?’

Not far away, Truett was getting nervous.

Truett’s mentor kept shooting Truett frantic looks, and all the other faculty were acting super respectful toward the man. Truett instantly got it: this was that legendary boss, the Dorestan Medical Alliance leader, famous for being a total wildcard.

Truett quickly plastered on a fawning smile.

But then he remembered Emily was still right behind him, and it kinda bugged him. He thought, ‘She’s just tagging along and cashing in on my luck.

‘If it weren’t for me, she’d never get to meet a big shot like this in her whole life.

“Talk about riding my coattails.’

Truett sneered inwardly, and as the man strode over, he shifted to the side, using the moment to edge Emily out of the spotlight.

Emily thought, ‘I really should’ve slapped him when I had the chance!

But then Emily glanced at Stella, her face unreadable. She almost wanted to ask, “Hey, Stella, don’t you think that guy heading for Truett looks kind of familiar? Especially his eyes.”

Truett, all fired up, shot his hand up and took a big step forward. “Mr. Woodruff, it’s an honor to meet you,” he blurted out.

But right when everyone thought the leader was only making an exception for Truett because of his mentor, he walked straight past Truett and stopped in front of Emily.

Everyone was stunned.

Emily stiffly lifted her head.

She met the leader’s gaze.

The leader slowly reached out his hand and said, “Hello, Miss Chase.”

Emily felt her heart was practically bursting out of her chest.

She forgot to breathe, her gaze fixed on his hand in a daze, her mind going completely blank.

She couldn’t even remember how her hand ended up in his, or how he took it. And then, he actually bent down, as if he was about to kiss the back of her hand, all gentlemanly.

A soft cough sounded from the other side.

The leader thought, ‘Man, I really overdid it.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Stella holding a coffee cup across the room. A smirk tugged at his lips as he let go of Emily’s hand.

“I’m Cain Woodruff, the leader of the Dorestan Medical Alliance. Nice to meet you all,” he said.

Truett, standing off to the side, felt his stiff face finally ease up a bit. He said, “Mr. Woodruff, I’m also very glad

Cain didn’t even spare him a glance. He just turned his head to Stella, a smile tugging at his lips. He said, “If you don’t mind, you can call me Cedar.”

Everyone just froze.

They thought, ‘Are they so close to call him a nickname?’

Emily was shocked.

She stared into Cain’s eyes, and suddenly, last night flashed in her mind: Stella introducing her to that mysterious guy in the trench coat, baseball cap, and mask, walking together back to the hotel. The two faces overlapped perfectly in her head.

It hit her: Cain and Cedar were the same person.

Emily was freaking out.

She screamed inwardly, ‘Wait, this guy is Cedar?
