“You know me?” Payton asked in shock. She racked her brain, but couldn’t connect her with any of those big shots in Jaffina.

At that moment, her husband’s voice suddenly rang out. “What’s going on?”

Quovadis had finished talking to the principal about donating a batch of new media equipment for the sake of his daughter. When he came out, he saw his wife and daughter caught up in a confrontation with someone.

He glanced uneasily at the man whose eyes were fixed on the girl. It reminded him of the man who had once led a 27-man squad and safely got every one of them out during the chaos in Farronia.

As if he sensed something, Sebastian looked up and met Quovadis’ gaze. His face was unreadable.

“Mr. G-” Quovadis stammered. His heart skipped a beat.

His legs gave out, and right there in front of everyone, he collapsed to the ground.

Everyone was stunned.

“Honey, what are you doing?” Payton asked in shock. She rushed over and quickly helped him back to his feet.

Quovadis stayed silent.

Every time he closed his eyes and remembered how Sebastian shot those bandits in the head in cold blood, he’d feel sick to his stomach.

Every time he puked, it was followed by a nightmare. It totally messed him up.

Stella shot a quick look at Quovadis, then turned to Sebastian. “You know him?” she asked, her voice steady.

“No,” Sebastian said, his eyes completely unreadable.

Meanwhile, Lachlan finally managed to pick up his phone and shuffled over, legs shaking. “M-Mr. Gray, what brings you here?”

Sebastian frowned, barely hiding his impatience.

But since Stella was there, he just lifted his fingers and poked Cookie’s chubby cheek. “Just keep things under

control.”

Lachlan was confused.

“Mr. G-” Sebastian cut Cookie in, correcting her. “Call me Uncle.”

Stella and Cassie were speechless.

‘Whatever makes you happy, they both thought.

Sebastian checked his watch, barely holding onto his patience. “You want to work with the Knight family, but do you even know whose daughter she is?”

Payton instinctively gripped her husband’s arm, her heart pounding.

“W-Whose daughter is she?” Payton stammered.

The next second, a cold, commanding voice cut through the air from nearby. “Mine.”

Payton jerked her head around and a surprisingly handsome face came into her view.

Every parent and teacher in the kindergarten sucked in a breath the instant they recognized him. That face was a regular on the cover of every business magazine. He was Jaxon Knight.

He looked like he’d walked straight out of a high-stakes meeting, a gray shirt with sleeves cinched by armbands. Power radiated from his build, and that icy, untouchable presence felt the instant he arrived.

The air seemed to freeze in that instant.

Cassie looked away.

She couldn’t help but remember that day after Conrad’s press conference. When she was about to leave, Jaxon cornered her in the backstage storage room. They made out there.

Jaxon strode over to Cassie without looking at anyone else. He paused briefly when he passed Sebastian and Stella.

“Hello, Mr. Gray and Ms. Carter,” Jaxon greeted them.

“Daddy, you’re finally here!” Cookie chirped in her adorable childish voice. Payton felt like she’d just been hit by a bolt of lightning. Jaxon bent down, scooping her up with one strong arm.

Cassie put on a fake smile. “I’ve got something to deal with. I gotta go!”

She turned around, ready to leave.

But Jaxon caught her by the shoulder, stopping her in her tracks.

Cassie felt totally trapped.

When she looked up, she saw Stella watching her with a half smile.

Cassie was speechless.

“Mrs. Stout, do you have something to say about my daughter?” Jaxon asked, his voice brooked no argument. Payton’s knees nearly buckled and she almost fell.

Payton stammered, “I…”

How was she supposed to know Cookie was Jaxon’s daughter?

On the PTA records, Cookie’s information was always blank. At every parent-teacher meeting, it was always an assistant or nanny who showed up instead.

Payton’s mind was spinning. The Knight family… No, Jaxon kept his daughter’s identity locked down so tight.

“Mr. Knight, I-I think there must be some misunderstanding!” Quovadis stammered. He tried his best not to look at Sebastian. Jaxon was intimidating, but Sebastian was on another level.

Jaxon glanced at him and held back his anger. “A misunderstanding?”

“Yes, just a misunderstanding,” Cassie sneered. Jaxon paused, turning to look at her. “They just called Cookie a single-parent kid with no manners, and tried to get the PTA to kick her out of kindergarten. That’s all.”

She deliberately stressed those last two words.

Payton and Quovadis froze in fear.

“Is that so?” Jaxon’s icy gaze swept over them, and the couple started shaking their heads like crazy.

Payton was so terrified that she burst into tears.

If she’d known, she wouldn’t have dared to badmouth Jaxon’s daughter.

“You’re good,” Jaxon said, his tone icy.

He laughed, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. Everyone present knew the Stout family and their group were about to get flipped upside down.

Lachlan, standing aside, didn’t even dare to say a word.

He kept sneaking glances at Sebastian out of the corner of his eye.

As for Sebastian… He ignored everyone else, just kept his eyes locked on the girl next to him. ‘Damn, is he obsessed or what?’ Lachlan thought to himself.

The next second, his phone started ringing again. His face fell immediately. He begged for help, but Karson blocked him instead.

Lachlan felt desperate.
