Chapter 63 Defeated

Finisher

The moment Kayden froze and the red glow faded from his body, Joanna snapped her whip forward with full force.

Spirit Lash!

It was only a Silver-tier skill, but its pain-amplifying effect made the hit terrifyingly strong.

“Aaaahhh-!”

Kayden screamed.

It hurt. Way too much.

He had never felt pain like this before. The whip cracked across him, and it felt like even his soul was shaking. His first thought wasn’t to fight back. It was to run.

Kayden turned and bolted. Joanna chased him at once.

That spoiled bastard! He deserved to die!

Kayden’s constant harassment had kept Joanna on edge all through her senior year. All she wanted was to get into college and escape him.

Now that she finally had power, beating him like this felt amazing.

It was deeply satisfying.

If she didn’t have to worry about his parents backing him, and if she didn’t still need to take the SAT, she might have killed him.

The thought made her whip move even faster, leaving afterimages in the air.

She had been grinding dungeons these past few days. Whenever she had time, she practiced using the whip. Even without skills, her normal attacks hurt badly.

Kayden had already been chased across half the plaza. He finally realized something was wrong.

He checked his HP. 70%.

This won’t work. If she keeps chasing me, I’ll die. She’s a fragile summoner. As long as I hit her with Fury Charge, I can stun her. Then Terra Strike to knock her up. Hellbound Slash to block her skills. Tempest Strike to finish her. She’s done.

A full combo formed in his mind.

Finished

With that plan, Kayden suddenly turned around and charged back.

This time, Joanna didn’t move at all. It looked like she wasn’t ready.

But her mental command had already been given.

One second later, she released Lunar Aegis.

Boom! Kayden slammed into Joanna. His axe struck the Spider Lady’s gown, and a web-like pattern burst out, protecting her.

Joanna had been stunned by the impact.

At the same time, Nighthowl’s Lunar Aegis activated.

A massive shield appeared, blocking Kayden’s follow-up attack.

His hammer smashed into the ground. The earth shook. Above Joanna’s head, a number appeared. O damage.

But now? Things were different.

Joanna gave a command. Nighthowl and Alwyn calmly chipped away at Kayden’s HP. From time to time, Joanna struck with Spirit Lash. Slowly, steadily, Kayden’s HP dropped to 10%.

At that instant, Kayden force-exited the dungeon to stop her from finishing him.

Joanna exited as well and returned to the entrance.

By then, a crowd had already gathered.

The dungeon plaza was always busy. People came and went all the time. When they saw an arena challenge, they gathered like it was a show, pointing and talking.

As soon as Kayden appeared, voices exploded around him.

“Man, fighting a Summoner is rough. She’s got one tank pet, one support pet, and shields. Of course you lost.”

“Summoners peak early. Warriors peak late. Without the Blood Rage speed boost, those two summoned beasts will block you forever.”

“You just spun Tempest Strike in one spot? You’re supposed to chase her with the storm. It’s obvious you don’t really know the skill. Your mastery is low. That’s a Gold-tier move, and you completely wasted it.”

Back at school, Kayden had always been treated like a star. Everyone knew who he was. He had never been challenged like this before. He shot a glare at the professional who spoke and snapped, “Then you try it! Talking big in Bronze-tier gear, you’ve got some nerve.”

Meanwhile, Joanna looked far more pleased.
