Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1003

The child looked so well-behaved while sleeping, just like a little angel. His thick, curled eyelashes cast long shadows on his chubby cheeks, making him look as peaceful and beautiful as a painting. If only this were her Joy, how wonderful would that be. "Why are you crying?" After seeing the doctor out, Remington returned to find Liz sitting by the bed, silently watching Ron. The child was asleep, his tiny hand tightly grasping one of Liz's fingers. It was a beautiful and heartwarming scene, but Remington quickly noticed something was wrong—a crystalline tear was falling from the corner of Liz's eye. Remington's heart ached. He strode over, standing by the bed. His large hand rested on the back of Liz's neck, gently pulling her to lean against his chest, while his other hand wiped away the tear from her eye. Snapping back to reality, Liz raised her hand to brush away the last bit of moisture from her eyes and shook her head. "It's nothing. I just feel so sorry for this child. Martin West and Stella West don't care about him at all. Even if they get a new nanny, there's no guarantee the child will be well taken care of." Anna certainly couldn't go back to work for the West family, but any new nanny might not necessarily look after Ron well either. After all, Mr. and Ms. West were incredibly negligent toward the child. "I'll arrange for a reliable person to go over. Don't worry." Remington stroked Liz's long hair, his voice deep and soothing. Since he said so, Liz believed he would definitely sort it out. Feeling a bit relieved, she nodded and said, "Alright." From start to finish, her gaze never left Ron. Her affection for the child was evident. Remington's lips parted slightly. He had wanted to say that if she truly liked the child so much, he could talk to the West family and have him stay with them for a while. But thinking of Ron's biological mother, those unbearable past events, and the Joy they had lost, he ultimately felt it wouldn't be compensation for her, but rather a torment. Better not. He closed his mouth, lowered his head, and placed a kiss full of tender pity on the top of Liz's head. It would happen. They would have another baby. By the time Liz and Remington finished accompanying Ron through his treatment, night had already fallen. Stella West had been taken to the police station, and surprisingly, Martin West hadn't come looking for them. Remington didn't take the initiative to contact Martin either. The two of them walked out of the hospital with Ron in their arms. The night breeze blew, bringing a slight chill. Worried that Ron might catch a cold, Liz stopped Remington outside the inpatient building. She stepped forward and tightened the blanket wrapped around Ron in his arms. "Alright, let's go." Once it was snug, she stepped back and urged him on. Remington resumed walking. As Liz was about to follow, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. She paused and glanced around. In front of the darkened inpatient building, patients, family members, and doctors were rushing in and out. She didn't spot anything unusual. Without overthinking it, Liz withdrew her gaze and quickly caught up. Carrying Ron, they headed straight back to Oakridge Heights. By the time they arrived at Oakridge Heights, the night was pitch black. Ron had fallen back asleep after having some formula in the evening, blowing bubbles the whole car ride while Liz held him. However, as soon as they got out of the car and Remington carried him toward the house, the little guy suddenly woke up. Resting his chin on the man's broad shoulder, he waved his tiny hand at Liz. Liz stepped up and took Ron's hand. As the three of them walked together, they looked exactly like a family of three returning home.
