Jerome scoffed softly. "What, stay here and watch you two flaunt your romance? I'm not a fan of being a third wheel."
He turned away and waved a hand dismissively.
"No need to walk me out. Take good care of her."
Before Lizetta could react, Jerome opened the door and left.
Lizetta blinked at the closed door, then shot Remington a reproachful look.
"You drove Yoli and Jerome away. Are you happy now?"
Remington arched an eyebrow, laughing helplessly. "How did I drive them away? Clearly, they just knew how to read the room."
Lizetta, "..."
She actually had no counterargument to that.
Thinking for a moment, she said, "Why do I feel like Jerome is acting strange? Usually, he hates seeing me spend time with you..."
Before she could even finish the sentence, she realized she was speaking without thinking.
Remington was already intensely territorial when it came to Jerome. Bringing this up was basically poking the bear.
Plus, it sounded like she was talking behind Jerome's back.
Just as she was scrambling to change the subject, Remington chimed in.
"Why? Now that he's gone and willing to let us be alone, you're disappointed? Feeling a little empty? Do you miss him chasing after you and trying to control you? Liz, I never took you for a player."
Lizetta's eyes went wide, her hands flying up defensively.
"That's not what I meant at all! I absolutely do not! I've been wishing Jerome would finally let go, drop his guilt and sense of responsibility, and find his own happiness. Really! I've made all of this crystal clear to him before, but he never listened. What was I supposed to do?"
Lizetta rambled her panicked explanation until she noticed the strange look on Remington's face.
The man looked like he was fighting the urge to burst out laughing...
"What's so funny? Are you messing with me again?"

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
