Conrad West did not even know that Lizetta had passed the critical stage and woken up, yet he still had the audacity to make excuses for his adopted daughter.

Cedric simply couldn't hold back his mocking laughter.

"Hah, your biological daughter's life is hanging by a thread, but your heart bleeds for your adopted one. If people didn't know better, they'd think she was Mr. West's little mistress."

"What nonsense are you spouting? How filthy!"

Conrad froze for a second before glaring at Cedric with a predatory, ice-cold gaze.

Cedric shrugged. "Did I hit the nail on the head? Why else would Mr. West look so furious about being called out?"

He then turned his attention to Eartha Porter Madden, clicking his tongue meaningfully while blatantly glancing at the top of her head.

Eartha maintained a relatively calm and composed expression, merely knitting her brows.

"Andrea is the daughter Conrad and I raised with our own hands. Anyone who harbors such thoughts truly has a dirty mind! I trust Conrad absolutely."

The moment her voice faded, Remington let out a low, cold scoff.

"Did you ever consider that my late mother-in-law also absolutely trusted her good husband and her best friend? And look how that turned out."

Both Eartha and Conrad instantly stiffened, their expressions freezing on their faces.

Remington didn't spare another glance at their hypocritical faces. He turned and strode toward the hospital room, his retreating silhouette radiating an icy indifference.

Conrad wanted to shout after him in rage, but Eartha held him back.

"Conrad, we don't even know how Andrea is doing or how she ended up driving into the lake. That child isn't a strong swimmer. Liz has doctors looking after her here, so we really should hurry over and check on Andrea."

Conrad patted her hand gently. "I'll have the driver inspect the car thoroughly in a bit. I highly doubt they'd dare to be that brazen."

Eartha nodded, letting out a long, heavy sigh.

"We didn't even get to see Liz. I wonder if she just didn't want to see us... Remington was so hostile, do you think Liz misunderstands us too?"

Remington hadn't even mentioned whether Lizetta was awake or not.

Yet, coming from Eartha's mouth, it subtly implied that Lizetta was indeed awake, and that Remington's hostility was likely acting on Lizetta's orders.

Conrad furrowed his brow. "That child was ruined by criminal parents like the Gardenias. That Hans Gardenia is a convicted felon, and now Jolin Gardenia tampered with the brakes to commit murder. What good could Lizetta possibly learn from being raised by people like that!"

Eartha sighed again. "Oh, Liz is my sister's child. I loved Andrea as my own back then, and I will love Liz just the same now. I'm her stepmother, so it's fine if she doesn't trust me, but you are her biological father. How could you ever harm her... Sigh, this child's mindset is just too extreme. Don't blame her, honey. We'll just have to teach her slowly in the future."
