Remington's expression remained dangerously flat, entirely unbothered.
Conrad didn't seem rushed, acting as though he was absolutely certain Remington wouldn't risk alienating his future father-in-law over a mere assistant.
After a long beat, Remington's lips finally curled into a lazy smirk. "My assistant didn't say anything factually incorrect. Why should he apologize?"
Conrad's brow slammed together. Remington's gaze turned razor-sharp as he continued.
"Do you honestly view Lizetta's happiness as nothing more than a bargaining chip to threaten and manipulate others?"
Remington's question struck like a gavel.
Conrad's face froze, and Eartha hastily interjected, "You've misunderstood! Of course, we prioritize Liz's happiness. The only reason we're even considering you is because you risked everything to save her. Your assistant was just terribly out of line, and Conrad only spoke out of anger."
Remington raised an eyebrow, not confirming or denying her excuse, looking entirely bored by the prospect of arguing with her.
It was painfully clear that he viewed Eartha as entirely beneath his notice.
Eartha bit her lip hard. As fury bubbled inside her, a sliver of dark satisfaction also emerged.
This was perfect. Remington's hostility had completely wiped out whatever lingering guilt or pity Conrad might have felt for Lizetta.
Conrad grabbed Eartha's arm. "Stop wasting your breath on him. I'll have a team down here in ten minutes, and we are seeing our daughter today, no matter what."
He pulled out his phone, but before he could dial, it began to ring.
Seeing it was his own assistant, Conrad quickly answered. Just as he was about to bark an order, his assistant's panicked voice screamed through the speaker.
Conrad roared his orders. "Deploy every man we have! Tell the driver to offer a massive cash reward to the bystanders on the bridge. I don't care what it costs, they must pull Andrea out alive!"
Hanging up the phone, Conrad spun around, glaring at Remington with pure venom.
"Remington Dashiell, you are a ruthless monster! To orchestrate a lethal hit on an innocent girl—do you really think you're a god in Zion City?"
Watching Conrad's furious, self-righteous meltdown, the mockery in Remington's eyes deepened.
"Oh, don't try to pin your own sins on me. I would never stoop to attempted murder. But since we're throwing around baseless accusations, you're the one who bought Lizetta that car. Shouldn't I just assume you collaborated with your adopted daughter and your mistress wife to murder Lizetta?"
Conrad was shaking with absolute rage. "Mirror Lake just reopened to traffic today, and Andrea just so happens to plunge into it?! There are no coincidences like that! The police released her, which proves she is entirely innocent and had nothing to do with Lizetta's accident!"
Even Cedric, listening to Conrad defend the fake daughter over his own flesh and blood, felt a wave of crushing pity for Lizetta.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
