Lizetta's heart leaped into her throat, a flash of panic crossing her eyes as she instinctively babbled.
"Grandpa, what are you talking about? I don't..."
Before she could even finish her lie, the man's towering figure stepped directly into view behind her.
Lizetta, "..."
What kind of boyfriend was this, throwing her under the bus like that?
Her face burned, and she didn't even dare to look at the old man's expression on the screen.
"Grandpa, Grandma."
Remington, on the other hand, looked perfectly composed and natural.
Throughout her call, he had been sitting on the sofa opposite her hospital bed, never once leaving the room.
Although her sudden glance toward him had been what tipped the old man off, Remington was absolutely certain of one thing.
Nelson had known he was there the entire time. Only his silly girl would actually think she could fool the old fox.
"Don't call us Grandpa and Grandma. It's inappropriate. Since you and Liz are already divorced, there's no need for such familiar terms."
Despite not showing any overt anger, Nelson's expression was calm but his words were decidedly ungracious.
Remington didn't mind in the slightest. He simply nodded respectfully.
"I'll listen to you, sir. Whenever you tell me to change how I address you, I'll change it then."
Nelson was so irritated he actually laughed. "You've got quite the arrogant tone for a young punk. What makes you so sure I'll ever tell you to change it?"
Remington slightly reined in the faint smile on his handsome face, his expression turning entirely serious.
"I don't know for sure. But I have patience, and I can wait. For Liz, I am willing to wait as long as it takes."
As he spoke, he looked down at Lizetta. She instinctively looked up at him, and for a fleeting second, their eyes locked, and they shared a completely unconscious, secret smile.
Then, Lizetta immediately felt the piercing, fiercely disappointed glare of her grandfather burning through the screen.
She hadn't forgotten that her grandfather had just been subjected to a massive dose of stress today.
He absolutely could not handle any more aggravation.
She instantly tore her eyes away from Remington, practically scooted her butt to the side, and shamelessly surrendered the vast majority of the camera frame to him.
Let Grandpa aim all his heavy artillery directly at him.
"Hah. Hahaha. Patience? You can wait? You need the qualifications to wait first! Let me be perfectly clear: even though you saved Liz this time, I will be the first one to vehemently object to the two of you getting back together!"
As he spoke, Nelson surprisingly stood right up from the operating table.
Without warning, he placed his hand over his heart and offered a deep, formal bow of his head straight into the camera.
"Grandpa Madden!"
Remington was genuinely stunned, his expression shifting drastically.
