As his words fell, a brief hush washed over the crowd.

Lizetta met his gaze from a short distance away. Hearing him declare to the entire press that he was pursuing her sent her heart into an uncontrollable flutter.

He hadn't told her he was going to make their current relationship public.

Utterly unprepared, a furious blush rushed to her cheeks.

"Hmph! Scheming bastard! Does he think making a public spectacle will pressure me into saying yes?"

Nelson's displeased voice suddenly rang out beside her.

He leaned over slightly, casting a glaring look at the highly conspicuous Remington before pulling back with a dark scowl.

"Is he really that confident he can win over my precious granddaughter? Announcing it to the world so desperately—isn't he afraid of making a fool of himself when he fails?"

After venting his frustration, Nelson noticed the silence in the car and looked over.

Seeing his precious granddaughter still staring at that obnoxious man outside, a soft blush on her cheeks and looking utterly smitten, he let out another loud scoff and snapped at the driver.

"What are you staring at? Drive! Are you waiting for the reporters to swarm us?"

"Right away, sir," the driver replied promptly, instantly speeding off.

Outside, after that brief silence, the crowd exploded. The reporters grew downright frantic.

"Mr. Dashiell, are you implying a future marriage alliance between the Dashiell Group and the Madden Group?"

"Word is you have a previous marriage. Do Mr. Madden and Ms. Madden mind?"

"Do you still have feelings for your ex-wife? Isn't it unfair to publicly pursue Ms. Madden while your previous marriage was kept a secret?"

He let out a breathless chuckle and gave her a light swat.

"Keep sweet-talking me. This is just your sneaky way of complaining that I'm being a dictator who doesn't care about your happiness!"

She immediately shook her head like a rattle drum. "Grandpa, your reading comprehension needs work. I clearly meant that your happiness is my happiness!"

"Hmph. If I refuse to let you be with him, you'll still be happy? You really won't resent me?"

He didn't buy a word of it.

She blinked, her eyes brimming with pure sincerity.

"How could you think that! First of all, you don't approve because of all the stupid things he's done in the past. You're worried about handing me back to him—that's just you loving and protecting me. I completely understand, and honestly, it makes me feel so cherished. Secondly, in my eyes, there's no man in the world more handsome or worthy of my love than you. If I had to choose, I'd pick you every time!"

Even knowing she was laying it on thick just to make him happy, Nelson couldn't suppress the wide smile that broke across his face.
