"I got dirty too, and it's incredibly uncomfortable. Can I borrow a bathroom to wash up and change into some clean clothes?"
Lizetta looked down and saw that the hem of Remington's tailored trousers had indeed been splashed with the foul-smelling broth.
"Heh, nicely played, Mr. Dashiell."
Before Lizetta could reply, Jerome paused in his tracks and looked back with a knowing smile.
He had actually thought Remington rushed over just to help chase Conrad away and score some points.
Turns out, the man had ulterior motives. He was just looking for an excuse to get inside the Madden estate.
Otherwise, given Grandpa Nelson's current disdain for him, Remington wouldn't have dared set foot inside without a bulletproof reason.
Lizetta knew exactly how severe Remington's germaphobia was, and the smell of that broth was genuinely awful.
She looked at Jerome pleadingly. "Jerome..."
Meeting her clear, desperate gaze, how could Jerome possibly say no?
Besides, Remington had legitimately helped them out just now.
If it hadn't been for his violent interference, Conrad would likely have dragged out the confrontation for a long time.
Conrad was, after all, Lizetta's biological father. If the scene had gotten too ugly, it would have severely damaged her reputation.
Jerome turned his back to them and said lightly, "I didn't see anything."
As he walked away, Lizetta stuck her tongue out playfully and turned to Remington.
"My grandparents are resting. Hurry up and get cleaned up, then sneak out before they notice."
Remington stepped through the grand doors of the Madden estate, feeling an unexpected wave of emotion. Getting inside felt like a bigger accomplishment than closing a billion-dollar merger.
It was way too hard.
As Lizetta led him down the hall, Remington quickly caught up to her and reached out, wrapping his hand around hers.
Lizetta instinctively glanced around the empty corridor. "Can you behave? My grandfather hasn't given us his blessing yet."

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
