Eartha's slouched posture shifted slightly, her spine straightening as she swallowed hard.
"The information I have about that child is something I can't just hand over right now. But I promise you, this secret is absolutely worth letting me go."
Lizetta's breathing hitched, her brow knotting tight.
Her heart hammered wildly in her chest. A vague, chaotic thought flashed through her mind, but she couldn't grasp it.
"Heh. Eartha, do you really think I'm going to let you play me with empty promises?" Remington asked, his brow arching coldly.
She thought she could just dangle the promise of a secret and walk away free?
Eartha wasn't rattled. She simply spread her hands.
"Is the great Mr. Dashiell afraid I'm tricking him? I'm already at rock bottom. You could crush me as easily as an ant. What kind of trick could I possibly pull? I don't even need you to get me out immediately. Just sign the letter of forgiveness, bring the lawyer here, and I'll tell you everything. If you don't think the information is worth it, you can always call off the lawyer. You have nothing to lose."
Leaning back in her chair, a relaxed, confident smile spread across her face.
She could see the intense focus in Remington's eyes, and the rigid tension in Lizetta's shoulders.
She knew they were going to accept.
Lizetta was disgusted by that smug, victorious expression.
She grabbed Remington's arm. "Ignore her. Let her take her precious secret to the grave!"
She glared at Eartha. "Keep dreaming. We are never signing a letter of forgiveness, and you are never getting a reduced sentence."
Lizetta let out a harsh, mocking laugh.
"Besides, your kidneys are failing. What difference does a long or short sentence make to you? Did you actually think you could get a kidney transplant while sitting in prison? You're going to rot and die in a cell."

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....

This novel is too sad. When will Lizetta experience real happiness. Why is her life so miserable.. Author pls bring changes in the story....
