Before Eartha could even process what was happening, the pill bottle and the medication were smacked out of her hand, scattering across the floor.

She was already on the verge of passing out. The overwhelming nausea, dizziness, and sheer lack of oxygen stripped her of any ability to think.

Operating purely on instinct, she rolled off the bunk and blindly patted the cold concrete, desperate to find the scattered pills.

But before her fingers could brush against her salvation, a heavy boot kicked the pills out of reach.

She groveled on the floor like a desperate dog, pawing frantically as ragged, wheezing gasps tore from her throat.

Finally, her fingers closed over a single pill. She clamped her hand shut instantly.

Her fingernails scraped violently against the concrete, leaving bloody streaks, but she didn't care. Yet before she could bring her hand to her mouth, the boot came crashing down on her fingers.

She screamed in agony, her hand flying open. The boot ground down mercilessly, crushing the pill—and seemingly the bones of her hand—into fine powder.

Overcome with absolute despair, Eartha opened her mouth to scream for help.

Someone seized her from behind, clamping a hand tightly over her mouth. A barrage of brutal punches and kicks rained down on her.

She curled into a tight ball, throwing her arms over her head as she absorbed the agonizing blows.

It wasn't until she lay limp on the floor, twitching and stripped of the strength to even whimper, that someone violently yanked her head back by the hair. A voice hissed directly into her face.

"If you want to live, you know exactly what to say!"

Eartha's ears were ringing violently; it took every ounce of her remaining strength just to process the words.

Gasping for air, her teeth chattering uncontrollably, she finally wheezed.

"If... if you want me to talk... agree to my terms. Otherwise... I'll take it to my grave—ugh!"

Before she could finish the sentence, another sickening blow slammed into her ribs.
