Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1242

Nelson looked somewhat defeated. He let out a heavy sigh, offering a self-deprecating laugh.

“The root of this disaster lies within the Madden family. What right do I have to blame anyone else?”

Eartha was the one who swapped Joy with a decoy.

Decades ago, when Eartha had swapped Lizetta, he, as her grandfather, had failed to notice.

Now, Eartha had pulled the exact same trick, replacing his great-grandson and causing Lizetta to be separated from her baby for so long. The heartbreak had nearly killed her.

Nelson had always believed the West family and Hanna Evert Dashiell were entirely responsible.

But in the end, the true origin of this tragedy stemmed from the Maddens.

He really was getting old and foolish.

He had failed to protect his granddaughter, subjecting her to endless danger and pain. He felt he no longer had the right to throw his weight around and interfere with her happiness.

“Grandpa, what are you saying? This has nothing to do with you. I don't blame you, and Mom wouldn't either. I actually dreamed of Mom recently. She told me she never stopped worrying about you and Grandma. She made me promise to take care of you both. She entrusted me to you, so you have every right to be involved in my life. Who would dare say otherwise?”

Lizetta hated seeing him consumed by such gloomy guilt. She leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder, and shot a sharp glare at Remington.

Remington crouched in front of Nelson. “Grandpa, I was equally blind. I treated Martin West and his daughter like decent people for years. Even if you made mistakes, they don't erase mine. Let's leave the past behind us. Right now, the only thing that matters is bringing Joy back.”

With that, Remington extended a hand toward Nelson.

Nelson glanced at the large palm with a look of mild disgust, clearly lacking the enthusiasm for a high-five.
