Nathan's expression shifted. Being constantly berated and stripped of his dignity had already pushed him to the edge.

"What's wrong with me smoking in my own family's hospital? Besides, if none of you were so ungrateful and infuriating, would I be out here smoking out my frustration? Who is the father here? Me or you?"

His tone was harsh, but masking his complaint about being disrespected as 'smoking out his frustration' was essentially a clumsy show of vulnerability.
