Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1357

With that kind of cowardice, how did he dare march in here swearing he wanted to make things right with Lizetta?

Jerome called out to Conrad's retreating back, his voice freezing.

"Conrad, sometimes a person really should believe in karma. Oaths have a funny way of coming true. Those shares were left by my aunt Elsa on her deathbed. She didn't leave them just for you; she meant for them to protect her only bloodline—Lizetta. She trusted you to care for her flesh and blood. But look at what you've done all these years. Clutching my aunt's shares in your greedy hands... doesn't it ever keep you awake at night? Do you never have nightmares?"

Conrad didn't want to hear another word, yet his feet felt rooted to the carpet, refusing to move.

When Jerome finally finished, Conrad didn't look back or utter a single word. He just picked up his pace and practically bolted.

His steps were shaky, his face deathly pale, and his back drenched in a cold sweat.

Stepping out of the office, he stumbled. Two junior secretaries happened to be walking by, and one instinctively reached out to steady him.

"Mr. West, are you alright? You look terrible. Are you sick?"

Conrad let out a ragged breath, shook his head, and hurried away.

Behind him, their hushed voices drifted down the hall.

"Why did you help him? He's an ungrateful backstabber, that toxic son-in-law. Everyone's turned on him, and it won't be long before he's kicked out of the Madden Group. If Mr. Madden sees you helping him, he might think you're on his side."

"As if I'd pity a scumbag like that! I just didn't realize who it was before I grabbed him. I couldn't exactly shove him away once I had him. But seriously, did you see his face? Do you think karma finally caught up to him and gave him some weird disease?"

"Who knows? Maybe his heart is just rotting from the inside out."

...

Listening to their whispers, Conrad clenched his fists, his face turning an ugly shade of livid green.

Jerome watched the door swing shut before picking up his phone to reply to Lizetta.

"Where would I find the time to date? How about this: you come back and inherit the company, and I'll do whatever you and Grandpa want. If you want me to go on seven or eight blind dates a day, I'll gladly cooperate."

As the message sent, Lizetta was standing outside Candy's hospital room.

Seeing the little girl in person was totally different from looking at a photo. Candy's delicate, animated features looked even more like Jerome.

Lizetta couldn't imagine Jerome being the type of irresponsible jerk who would abandon a child.

So what exactly was going on?

As she secretly peeked through the window, Kimberley, who was holding Candy, suddenly seemed to sense something and glanced toward the door.
