Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1381

With just that little bit of capability, he dared to run up to him and swear he would make amends to Liz?

He stared at Conrad West's retreating back and said coldly.

"Conrad, sometimes a man really ought to believe in karma. Oaths and promises have a funny way of catching up to you. These shares were left by my aunt on her deathbed. She didn't just leave them for you; they were meant for the only flesh and blood she left behind—Liz. She believed you would treat your only child well, but look at what you've done all these years. Clutching my aunt's shares in your hands, don't you ever feel a shred of guilt? Don't you have nightmares?"

Conrad didn't want to hear another word from Jerome, but he didn't know what was wrong with him. His feet felt rooted to the spot, completely unable to move.

It wasn't until Jerome finished speaking that Conrad, without looking back or uttering a word, sped up his pace.

His footsteps were unsteady, his face pale, and his back drenched in a cold sweat.

The moment he stepped out of the office, he stumbled. Two young secretaries happened to be walking by, and one of them instinctively reached out to steady him.

"Mr. West, are you alright? Are you feeling ill? You look terrible."

Conrad let out a shaky breath, shook his head, and hurried away.

Whispers erupted behind him.

"Why did you help him? He's a backstabbing snake who betrayed his own family. Everyone has turned their backs on him, and it won't be long before he's kicked out of the Madden Group for good. Don't let Mr. Madden catch you helping him, or he might think you sympathize with the guy."

"Why would I sympathize with a jerk like him? I just didn't see who it was before I reached out. Once I had a hold of him, I couldn't just drop him on the floor. But did you see how awful he looked? Do you think karma finally caught up to him with some weird disease?"

"Who knows? Maybe his heart was so black it finally rotted from the inside out."

...

Listening to their gossip, Conrad clenched his fists tightly, his face turning livid.

Jerome watched Conrad leave before picking up his phone to reply to Lizetta's voice message.

"I don't have time to date right now. How about this: you come back and inherit the family business, and I'll do whatever you and Grandpa say. Even if you set me up on seven or eight blind dates a day, I'll cooperate."

When he sent the message, Lizetta was standing right outside Candy's hospital room.

She had seen the little girl with her own eyes. Compared to the photos, the vibrant, living little girl's facial features looked even more strikingly like Jerome's.

Lizetta didn't think Jerome's personality was that of a deadbeat who would abandon his child.

So what on earth was going on?

As she sneaked a peek through the glass, Kimberley, who was holding Candy inside, suddenly seemed to sense something and turned her gaze toward the door.
