The call was from his people stationed at the hospital.

"Stop them. I'll be right there."

After giving the order, Jerome hung up the phone and commanded the driver in a deep voice.

"Step on it!"

The driver agreed and immediately floored the gas pedal.

Half an hour later, the car came to a screeching halt in the hospital parking lot. Without waiting for the driver to open the door, Jerome pushed it open himself and stepped out with long strides.

He marched toward the inpatient building. After a few steps, he picked up the pace, eventually breaking into a full sprint.

By the time he arrived back at the ward, three bodyguards in black suits were standing at the door.

Seeing him approach, the bodyguards immediately stepped aside. The leader met Jerome's gaze and quickly reported.

"Ms. Evert and the little miss are both inside. We followed your orders and didn't frighten them."

Jerome nodded. He strode to the door and raised his hand to knock.

But he paused, wanting to look down and check if his appearance was presentable.

To his surprise, the ward door opened from the inside at that exact moment.

Jerome raised his eyes and met Kimberley's gaze. Unlike her earlier panic and nervousness, Kimberley was clearly mentally prepared this time, having already guessed what was happening.

Feeling as though the dust had finally settled, she looked surprisingly calm. There was nothing left to be anxious about.

She just gave Jerome a look and said.

"Come in."

With that, she turned and walked back into the room.
