A dead silence fell over the living room.
Whether it was Lizetta, Nelson Madden, or Remington, none of them felt the joy of victory.
The atmosphere was heavy, only broken by Joy's sudden giggles.
Nelson, Lizetta, and Remington turned their heads almost simultaneously, caught between tears and laughter as they saw that Joy had somehow managed to sit up and pull the sock off his little foot.
The toddler was currently gripping his toes, craning his chubby neck, getting ready to gnaw on his own foot.
The nanny tried to stop him, but the little guy seemed to think it was a game.
He pushed the nanny's face away with one tiny hand and took the opportunity to take a bite out of his toes, giggling triumphantly.
The nanny looked helpless. A second later, Joy's glee turned to disaster. He missed his foot, lost his balance, and ended up flat on his back like a flipped turtle.
He kicked his little legs in the air, struggling for ages but unable to roll back over.
"Pfft!"
Lizetta couldn't hold it back and burst into laughter. Her silly son was absolutely hilarious.
Then came Nelson's hearty laugh. "Hahaha, my little Joy is craving meat, isn't he? Let's have the chef make him a nice bowl of pureed meat soup for lunch."
With the tension broken, the whole room relaxed.
Lizetta wanted to lift Nelson's spirits even more, so she looked at the old man and asked.
"Grandpa, haven't you noticed we're missing someone in the house?"
Mrs. Bernice Madden hadn't been feeling well. She had traveled from Tranquil Meadows yesterday and hadn't slept well last night. After returning from the hospital, Nelson had coaxed her into taking a nap.
Nelson naturally knew Lizetta was talking about Jerome Madden.
He found it strange too. How did Jerome just disappear after a trip to the hospital?
Seeing Lizetta ask this, Nelson knew something was up.
He looked at Lizetta with a smile. "Stop keeping Grandpa in suspense, Liz. Tell me, what is Jerome up to?"

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
