She was wide awake to reality now: money was infinitely more reliable than men.

Just as dinner was being served, Dante returned.

Mrs. Gable was absolutely stunned. Dante had been working himself to the bone lately, coming home in the dead of night. This was the first time he had made it back in time for dinner in weeks.

"Mr. Hayes, why didn't you call ahead to tell me you'd be dining with us?"

Scolding him lightly, she quickly rushed off to the kitchen to order the chef to whip up two of his favorite dishes.

Dante's eyes found Quinn, who was busy playing with their son in the living room. "I finished my work early, so I came home."

In reality, he had canceled an exclusive magazine interview and a high-stakes dinner meeting just to rush back.

Quinn kept her attention entirely on the building blocks she was stacking with Leo, refusing to even acknowledge his presence.

Watching the way her beautiful profile instantly turned frigid the moment he walked in, Dante's heart plummeted into his stomach.

Samuel glanced at his son, brimming with pride. "It's good to have you join us for dinner. Dante, you really don't need to push yourself so hard. Leave the grunt work to your subordinates."

Dante nodded. "I know, Dad."

Soon, the maids carried out a series of extravagant plates.

The dining room was brilliantly lit, displaying a mouth-watering, lavish feast.

Samuel took his seat at the head of the table. His wife sat to his left, while Leo was placed to his right. Quinn naturally took the seat beside her son.

Without a second thought, Dante pulled out the chair directly next to Quinn and sat down.

The maids circled the table, serving soup. But just as one reached for Quinn's bowl, Dante raised a hand to stop her.

Under his mother's shocked gaze, Dante took the serving ladle himself. He filled a bowl with delicate chicken bouillon, meticulously skimming off the oil and picking out the garnishes before gently setting it in front of Quinn.

Even Quinn was thrown off guard by the gesture.

"I can serve myself," she muttered coldly.
