"First thing Monday morning, arrange a private car to pick her up from Lunas Crest."
Quinn had been swamped with work lately. Between preparing her submissions for the fashion competition semifinals and rushing to fulfill custom orders for her high-society clients, working overtime was her only option.
But keeping busy had its perks; as long as she was working, she didn't have the mental bandwidth to dwell on her crumbling personal life.
That evening, Quinn worked past nine o'clock. She was just packing up to leave the studio when her phone buzzed with a call from Mrs. Hayes.
"I'm at Jasmine & Moss, the café near your studio."
Quinn wasn't exactly surprised by the sudden summons.
If she hadn't been drowning in work, she would have reached out to her former mother-in-law herself. This saved her the trouble.
Five minutes later, Quinn pushed open the doors to Jasmine & Moss.
Mrs. Hayes was seated in a secluded corner. Even dressed down, her inherent elegance and old-money aura made her impossible to miss.
Unlike her usual haughty demeanor, today she looked visibly anxious, the deep crease between her brows betraying her mounting stress.
"Mrs. Hayes."
Quinn greeted her politely before taking the seat across from her.
"What would you like to drink?"
"Coffee keeps me up this late. I'll just have an oat milk," Quinn replied.
"Two oat milks," Mrs. Hayes told the waiter.
True to form, the older woman didn't bother with small talk.
"Dante went to see you. What did he say?"
The fact that Dante had discovered the divorce papers prematurely had thrown Mrs. Hayes completely off balance. She had been on edge for days, terrified of whatever retaliatory move her son might pull next.
