The dinner stretched late into the night.
When it was time to leave, Tara's private driver pulled up to collect her.
Waving goodbye, she hopped into her car and vanished down the street.
Left alone, Raymond flagged down a cab with Quinn, directing the driver to Lunas Crest.
The ride started off fine. With the cool night air blowing through the cracked window, Quinn felt perfectly lucid.
But ten minutes in, the heavy liquor finally hit her bloodstream like a freight train.
Slumping back against the leather seats, she sluggishly shook her head.
Her brain felt completely scrambled, and the entire taxi seemed to be spinning.
Spinning faster and faster.
She held up her hand, blinking as her fingers blurred into double vision.
Her cheeks were burning with a feverish heat, her eyelids drooping heavily as every muscle in her body turned to jelly.
Instinctively leaning sideways, she practically melted into Raymond's side. The clean, masculine scent of his cologne filled her senses, turning her already muddled brain to utter mush.
She began to mutter under her breath.
"Raymond... that's so weird..."
"That drink was totally sweet... why is the room spinning...?"
It finally dawned on her that his warning hadn't been a joke, but the realization came far too late.
She was absolutely wasted!
Raymond let out a heavy, exasperated sigh.
Reaching out, he gently steadied her collapsing frame and tucked her head securely against his shoulder.
His gravelly voice vibrated right against her ear.
Laced with both frustration and pure indulgence, he murmured, "I told you that stuff would knock you out. Do you believe me now?"
"So dizzy... I feel gross..."
Raymond stroked her back soothingly and spoke to the cab driver.
"My wife had a bit too much to drink. Take the turns slowly, please."
Hearing him casually call her his 'wife' sent a violent jolt through Quinn's foggy brain.
