Later, Tara had tracked him down at a security firm, and Quinn had hired him as a bodyguard.

He was just a regular guy. He drove a cheap beater car, wore generic clothes, ate whatever was put in front of him, haggled over his salary, and even dragged her to late-night grocery store clearance sales.

Thinking of all that, Quinn scoffed.

"You're claiming Raymond did all of this. Do you have a single shred of proof?"

Dante's gaze hardened.

"Not yet."

He had ordered investigations into every incident, but there was no direct evidence tying any of it to Raymond.

Quinn found him utterly ridiculous.

"So just because you're paranoid about him, he must be a villain?"

"Why should I doubt the man I care about just because of your baseless accusations?"

Dante couldn't fathom why she would rather trust a stranger with a shady past than listen to his warnings.

"Quinn, think about it. Besides his name, what do you actually know about him?"

"His background is a total black box. He's definitely hiding something. Doesn't it terrify you to sleep next to a man who won't even reveal his true identity?"

Quinn violently yanked her hand out of Dante's grip. She hated being touched by him, and she hated listening to him trash Raymond even more.

"Even if he is keeping secrets, I'm sure he has his reasons."

"From now on, my husband and I don't need you meddling in our affairs!"

"Quinn, why don't you get it? I'm telling you this for your own good. Before you get in too deep, you need to leave him."

"After all the years we've spent together, I know you still love me more than him. If you'd just come back to me..."

"Who told you I wasn't already in deep?"

Sick to death of his arrogance, Quinn cut him off coldly.

"Dante, you are my ex-husband. I am crazy about the man I'm with now. I don't care about his background or his identity. All I know is that he has never done a single thing to hurt me, and he treats my son and me like gold."

Staring into her icy eyes and hearing her declare her devotion to another man, a dull, agonizing ache ripped through Dante's chest.

"Quinn!"
