"Are you hungry? Start with some soup."
Raymond had one phenomenal quality: he was incredibly emotionally stable with her.
Take right now, for example. Most men would be furious, demanding to know what her ex-husband wanted, maybe even yelling and forbidding her from ever speaking to him again.
But Raymond didn't do any of that. He simply served her rice and soup, setting the bowl gently in front of her.
Quinn took a sip of the soup, looking at the handsome profile of the man beside her. "Dante came by just now to ask me to visit Grandma with him in the country."
Raymond knew perfectly well that Dante was just using this as a cheap excuse to get close to Quinn.
But the choice to go was entirely hers.
Worst case, he would secretly trail them. Dante had already lost control and put his hands on her multiple times; Raymond simply didn't trust him.
"Raymond, Grandma is the only person in the Hayes family who was actually good to me. I only agreed to go so I could check on her. Plus, she still doesn't know Dante and I are divorced. If we don't show up together, she'll start asking questions... I don't want you to misunderstand."
"Mhm. If you want to go, then go," Raymond replied softly.
Quinn couldn't help but ask, "You aren't mad?"
Raymond looked at her deeply. "I trust you."
"When two people are together, trust is the absolute baseline."
"Only a profoundly insecure man would constantly second-guess and doubt his own wife."
Raymond had never doubted Quinn. She wasn't the type of woman to blur boundaries. He simply didn't trust Dante.
As a man, he knew exactly what Dante was thinking right now. He was filled with regret and was frantically trying to win her back.
But Raymond would never give him the chance.
She was finally his.
A rush of warmth flooded Quinn's chest. His unconditional trust and refusal to suffocate her filled her with a sudden, overwhelming sense of gratitude and relief.
