"Dante just promised me personally that he would definitely give Vivienne a proper explanation. You just sit tight and wait for those divorce papers."

Quinn chuckled inwardly. Someone was getting divorced alright, it just wasn't going to be her.

"Yasmine, you're spouting nonsense again."

Just then, Vivienne walked over as well. "Quinn, why didn't you and Dante come together? Don't tell me you two had another fight?"

Yasmine scoffed, as if she'd just heard a hilarious joke. "Dante probably doesn't even have the energy to fight with you anymore!"

"When you married into the Hayes family, you thought you actually landed a big catch. In the end, you're still just going to be the dumped ex-wife."

Quinn looked at the two women echoing each other and found it both amusing and utterly ridiculous.

"Yasmine, your engagement party is tomorrow. It looks very glamorous, but are you really so certain Leon Ambrose actually loves you?"

"I heard he's always carried a torch for his first love. Tell me, do you think you might become that dumped ex-wife you were just talking about in the future?"

"You always brag about how much your mother loves you and your father dotes on you. Can you honestly say they aren't just trading you to Leon in exchange for benefits for the Yates family?"

"Quinn, that is completely out of line!" Vivienne's eyes went wide.

"My brother cut ties with that woman a long time ago. Besides, everyone knows Mr. Yates adores Yasmine. He would never let her suffer like that!"

Yasmine snorted in agreement. "Some people are just so miserable and unloved that they want everyone else in the world to be as pathetic as they are."

"Quinn, Dante hasn't loved you for a long time. Take my advice: stop clinging to the Mrs. Hayes title and just let him and Vivienne be happy."

"Oh?" Quinn arched an eyebrow.

"I'm clinging to a title? Still better than some people who scheme and cling for years, only to end up with no legitimate status whatsoever."

"Yasmine, momentary gloating means nothing. If Leon ever sees through your true colors..."

"You won't get to play the wealthy socialite, and the Yates family will find you an utter embarrassment."

Yasmine's face darkened instantly.

If it weren't for the crowd of prying eyes and the fact that she was getting married tomorrow and couldn't cause a scene, she would have marched over and slapped Quinn right across the mouth.

Just then, a waiter carrying a tray of champagne walked in their direction.

Yasmine caught sight of him. Stepping forward discreetly, she sneakily stuck out her foot, intentionally tripping the waiter.

But Quinn was different.

When Quinn was little, Yasmine and Quentin used to torment her. They once ordered the servants to tie her hands behind her back and tossed her into the pool.

She had kicked desperately to keep her head above the water, but the moment she surfaced, the siblings shoved her head forcefully back under...

If her mother hadn't arrived to scold them and chase them away, she would have drowned right then and there.

Ever since then, the suffocating terror of the water had left her heavily traumatized. Because of that, she never learned how to swim.

Quinn tried her hardest to stay calm, but lacking any actual swimming skills, all she had was pure survival instinct.

Her legs kicked frantically and mechanically against the water, struggling with all her might to push her upper body upward.

Just so she could force her nose and mouth above the surface and greedily suck in air.

Water continuously flooded her nose and mouth. She choked violently several times, her chest tight and burning, her vision completely blurred by the splashing water.

The repressed horror of being held underwater, entirely unable to breathe, surged up again, wrapping around her throat like invisible vines...
