She Became Exactly What They Wished For novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Maryann looked up, her gaze meeting his eyes, which were brimming with suppressed emotions.

“Mary, let’s talk.”

His voice was hoarse to the extreme, and his eyes were bloodshot.

But she pulled her hand back without hesitation: “Mr. Frye, there is nothing left for us to talk about.”

Her words, devoid of any emotion, made his chest tighten and ache inch by inch.

“No, Mary, listen to me. Candice was a fraud all along! I’ve found out everything she’s done, and I’ve made her pay! Even those you favored, I’ve taught them a lesson. Look, look…”

He hurriedly handed her his phone, but Maryann slapped it away without mercy: “Lawrence, belated truths and so-called regrets mean nothing at all.”

The phone crashed to the ground, shattering into pieces, reflecting Lawrence’s stunned expression.

“I suppose you want to say that you’ve always had me in your heart, but you just couldn’t admit it until now, and that you traveled all this way just to stand before me and confess your feelings.”

Maryann looked at him quietly.

You probably also want to say that you remember my favorite foods, that you brought them especially for me, and that you don’t expect my forgiveness, only hope that I can give you a chance to let you stay by my side and make up for what you owe me?”

“That’s who you are,

Lawrence.”

Maryann curled her lips, as if she had already seen through his nature. “You only ever know regret when you’ve lost something.”

“But I don’t need it at all.”

Each word was slow and clear, like a sharp knife, torturing him inch by inch.

Lawrence stood frozen in place, his eyes full of complicated emotions.

“Besides, I already have a new life. If you have any conscience left, stay far away from me and don’t disturb me again.”

As Maryann spoke, she took the arm of the man beside her.

“Mr. Frye, I’m Darian Stewart.”

Darian put his arm around Maryann, saying, “Mary’s suitor.”

“I’ve heard a bit about what happened between you two back home. I won’t give you another chance to hurt Mary.”

His gaze toward Lawrence carried a hint of hostility, his voice declaring his claim without room for doubt.

And Lawrence was like an intruder expelled from his territory.
