Dominic could not help wondering whether his resurrection had anything to do with the apple he had eaten as a child.

He sat on the edge of the bed for a while, still unable to figure out the fruit’s true effect. Unwilling to dwell on it, he placed the apple at the very bottom of the cabinet and locked it away.

He got dressed and headed out.

Isabella stepped out of her room just then and saw him. “Honey, I woke Lily up. I’ll go with you to drop her off at school!”

Dominic frowned. “I can take her myself.”

Isabella, long accustomed to his cold remarks, did not mind.

She said lightly, “Hey, my car’s at the service center for maintenance. You’re not really going to let your beautiful wife take a taxi to work, are you?”

Dominic glanced at her and sneered, “So taking Lily to school is just an excuse? You actually want me to drive you to work.”

“Mm–hmm!” Isabella showed no embarrassment at being seen through and looked at him with pleading, puppy–like eyes.

“No chance,” Dominic said coldly.

Isabella walked over and wrapped her arms around his, teasing, “No chance, but there’s still a window!”

“Step aside.” Dominic shook her off and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Isabella smiled in triumph, certain he had not rejected her completely.

Breakfast was ready quickly.

Lilith came out rubbing her eyes. “Mommy, what time is it?”

Isabella checked her phone. “It’s early. Go eat breakfast.”

They sat down at the table, and Isabella noticed her own portion. She beamed with satisfaction.

Dominic ate in silence.

After breakfast, Lilith slung on her backpack.

Dominic looked around for the old Audi keys but did not see them. He frowned. “Isabella, did you take my keys?”

She was changing her shoes, bent over with her hips rounded and prominent. She lifted her head, shot him a flirtatious look, and shook the keys in her hand with a smile. “Honey, how are you so smart?”

Dominic’s cheeks twitched. He took Lilith to the elevator without another word.

Behind them, Isabella pulled on her heels and hurried to catch up, complaining under her breath, “Hey, wait for me!”

Lilith said, “Daddy’s waiting for you. He didn’t even press the elevator close button!”

Dominic shot her a glare. “Mind your own business!”

Isabella’s eyes lit up. She tried to hug and kiss him, but he blocked her.

She still looked pleased. “Honey, you’re the best!”

Dominic gave her a cool look and scrolled through his phone.

Dominic hesitated, then shook his head. “No need.”

Isabella looked disappointed and muttered, “You let my sister help advertise, but not me. That’s so unfair.”

“If you don’t stop nagging, get out of the car now,” Dominic said with a snort.

Near the company, Dominic glanced at several identical office buildings. “Which one?”

Isabella did not respond.
