Chapter 422
Dominic’s cheek twitched. “I’m hanging up.”
Isabella rushed to stop him. “Honey, don’t hang up. I miss you so much.”
He let out a short, humorless laugh and ended the call.
The busy tone echoed in Isabella’s ear. She pouted, dissatisfied.
A moment later, she lifted her head and looked toward Harold playing with her daughter. A soft smile curved her lips.
The doorbell rang.
She went to answer it and froze in surprise. “Dad!”
James nodded and stepped inside, leaning on his cane. Oliver and Samuel followed close behind.
When Harold saw them, he rose to his feet. “James.”
“Please, sit,” James said quickly, his heart skipping a beat as he hurried forward to steady him.
He had long known of this decorated war hero and had always treated Dominic with due respect. Even when Isabella had slit her wrist over Dominic, James had held his tongue. He understood Harold’s standing all too well. There had never been any question of Dominic marrying above his station by being with Isabella.
Lilith ran over the moment she saw them and greeted them politely. “Grandpa! Uncle Oliver! Uncle Sam!”
Oliver grinned and scooped her into his arms. “Did you miss your uncle?”
“A tiny bit!” She held her thumb and index finger a sliver apart.
“A tiny bit is enough,” Oliver said with a laugh. “Come on. I will take you out to buy toys.”
“Don’t buy her candy,” Isabella called after them. “She already has a few cavities.”
“It’s fine. A little won’t hurt,” Oliver replied carelessly.
Isabella frowned. “Suit yourself. You can explain it to your brother–in–law later.”
Oliver’s expression darkened. “You think I’m afraid of him?”
With that, he carried Lilith out.
‘Harold settled onto the sofa. “You’ve all worked hard on Dominic’s matter.”
Isabella had told him that the Sinclairs had made efforts during the incident, even if the results had not shown.
James shook his head with a bitter smile. “It’s embarrassing to admit. In the end, we still had to rely on you to step in. My family proved useless.”
Harold waved a hand dismissively. “Whether you were useful is not the point. The intention was there.”
He knew his grandson and granddaughter–in–law had divorced. That was not something he could interfere with Still, he remained quite fond of Isabella. In his heart, he still acknowledged her as family.
James lowered his voice. “Sir, now that you’ve intervened, Dominic will be released tomorrow.”
Harold nodded. “We’ll see tomorrow.”
At the city bureau, Dominic was living rather comfortably. Although he remained a detainee, the only restriction was that he

could not leave the station.
At that moment, he sat with a lit cigarette between his fingers, studying the young man across from him. A faint smile tugged at
the corners of his mouth.
Zachary was sweating.
They sat alone in a separate room, speaking privately, with no officers present.
“Well?” Dominic asked calmly. “Why are you looking for me at a time like this?”
Zachary wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. “About this matter… how about we settle it privately?”
“Settle it?” Dominic let out a low, mocking laugh. “Does that not sound ridiculous to you? You tried to nail me to the wall. Three and a half years in prison. And now you think one sentence about settling it will erase that?”
Rage churned in Zachary’s chest. ‘If you had this kind of background, you should have said so earlier! Anyone would have been cautious. You let things escalate to this point…‘
The memory of the video of him and Lydia spreading online struck him like a bolt. His heart lurched.
“So you knew Lydia was my person,” he said tightly. “You did it on purpose?”
Dominic nodded with infuriating calm. “I knew you wanted to frame me. But because of the Hales, you did not dare use illegal methods.”
