Chapter 449
This scene made Zachary’s heart tremble for no clear reason.
Damn it. She’s dead and she’s still wearing that expression?” He frowned, tossed his phone onto the table, and muttered, “Bad luck.”
Elijah drew on his cigar and exhaled a slow stream of smoke. “It’s done?”
“Yeah.” Zachary nodded. “She couldn’t handle the online harassment and hanged herself at home.”
“Was it handled cleanly?” Elijah asked.
Zachary’s lips curved into a thin smile. “I’ve arranged everything. Even if the police uncover a few clues, someone else will take the fall. Lydia framed the descendant of a war legend. Her reputation was already ruined. If someone lost control and went to kill her, no one would question it.”
“And her family?”
“They don’t know anything.” Zachary replied. “There’s no need to involve them.”
“Good.” Elijah nodded once. “I heard you’re planning to track Dominic’s daughter.”
Zachary knew Neil must have reported it. He sighed. “I don’t have a choice. Dominic’s getting too arrogant. I need to make him cautious.”
Elijah’s expression turned grave. “I’ve spoken to several people. The officials in Skyline City have made their stance clear. From now on, our situation depends on Dominic’s attitude. If he’s willing to reconcile publicly and state that none of this has anything to do with the Grants, the matter will fade away.”
He paused, then his voice hardened. “Otherwise, our troubles won’t end.”
Zachary’s jaw tightened. “I know. It just infuriates me. How can a kept man hold my family’s lifeline in his
hands?”
Elijah’s tone remained measured. “As for tracking the girl, I won’t stop you. But unless it’s absolutely necessary, don’t touch her. If you do, our entire family may not be able to remain in this country.”
*Relax. I’m not stupid.” Zachary let out a cold laugh. “I’m only looking for Dominic’s weak spot. Haven’t you noticed? We can’t afford to provoke him right now, but he doesn’t have the power to move against us directly either. He’s relying on public opinion.”
Public opinion, however, could be terrifying.
The next morning. Dominic rose early.
When he stepped out, he saw Yara on the floor outside, pushing a rag across the tiles with careful effort.
He hurried over. “Hey. Why are you doing this?”
