Chapter 465
Countless times, Jewel had opened Dominic’s contact, intending to call him. Yet whenever she remembered the sweet words he had spoken to Katherine, her heart felt as if it were being sliced apart, and she could not bring herself to press the call button.
Today, she had finally seen him again, only to witness this scene.
She gritted her teeth and muttered, “That two–timing scumbag.”
Beside her, Jade’s eyes turned icy.
“Dominic is being far too presumptuous,” she said flatly.
Startled, Jewel looked at her. “Sis, what do you mean?”
“Can’t you see it for yourself?”
The two sisters bore some resemblance, but Jade carried herself with greater elegance and poise. She held a glass of red wine and spoke in a cool, measured tone. “I warned him last time. Yet he’s still entangled with Autumn. Does he really think I have no temper?”
Jewel felt a surge of inexplicable anger, and her voice hardened. “Whatever happens between Autumn and Dominic is their business. You’re overstepping.”
Jade cast her a sidelong glance. “If they were just friends, I wouldn’t interfere. I’m afraid he’s entertaining thoughts he shouldn’t be.”
“What thoughts shouldn’t he have?” Jewel shot back. “Dominic isn’t married, and neither is Autumn. Even if something does happen, it would be mutual. What era are we living in? Do you still believe in arranged marriages?”
Jade rejected her argument. A cold smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “He wants to marry Autumn? Is he even worthy? How many more years can that old soldier in his family last? Once he’s gone, their clout evaporates. He has no real standing at all.”
Jewel’s temper flared at the open disdain. “That’s too much. The problem is your mindset. In my view, it’s the opposite. Autumn might not even be worthy of Dominic.”
Jade frowned. “Jewel, you’re overstepping. Since when is it your place to comment on my family’s affairs?”
“You…” Jewel trembled with anger. Lacking a retort, she turned on her heel and stormed off.
Meanwhile, Autumn tugged Dominic into another hall.
Several tables filled the room, and the one at the center drew the largest crowd.
The guests here were noticeably younger. Most appeared to be the sons and daughters of

influential, affluent families.
A young woman of about 20 stepped out from the crowd. Though she wore makeup and dressed fashionably, she could not compare to Autumn in appearance.
She approached, took Autumn’s hand, and said eagerly, “Autumn, Ben and the others are playing cards inside. Do you want to join?”
Autumn smiled. “You all go ahead. I’m keeping my friend company.”
She turned to Dominic. “This is Claire Murphy. We were classmates at university.”
Dominic nodded politely. “Hello.”
They were introduced as former classmates, yet Dominic could tell from Claire’s impeccably tailored, high–end clothing that she came from a wealthy family as well.
In fact, no one at today’s gathering seemed ordinary.
