Lydia looked at the sleeping Zachary, a flash of anger crossing her eyes. She did not act hastily, though. If he died in his sleep, the end would be too easy for him.
Her gaze moved slowly around the room, and an idea quickly formed in her mind.
Lydia knew this room well. Zachary had brought her here several times before. She moved quietly to the wardrobe and opened the drawer inside without a sound.
Many tools lay stored there.
After a brief pause, she took out two pairs of handcuffs and a bundle of rope.
Five minutes later…
Zachary sensed something strange and groggily opened his eyes. The moment he saw the red–clad figure standing before him, the hair all over his body stood on end.
By now, the sky had darkened. The room had grown dim as well.
A woman who was supposed to be dead now stood before him in red, her expression filled with anger and twisted delight. In the faint light, her face looked distorted and ferocious.
“Lydia!” Zachary felt his scalp go numb as a chill shot from the soles of his feet to the top of his head.
Lydia grinned coldly as she stared at him.
“You… don’t come over. Don’t come over…” Zachary screamed in terror. His body jerked as he tried to sit up in bed.
However, the sharp clink of metal rang out. He looked down instinctively and saw that both of his hands were locked to the headboard with handcuffs.
Lydia’s voice dropped slightly. “Zachary, when you harmed me… did you ever think this day would come?”
In Zachary’s eyes, Lydia had lost all of her former seductive charm.
The image of her at the moment of her death surfaced in his mind. Her face had twisted in pain. Her eyes had bulged and refused to close.
The memory made the woman standing before him seem even more sinister. Fear nearly drove him out
of his mind.
Zachary trembled violently. His legs kicked helplessly as terror robbed him of coherent speech. “D–Don’t come after me. It wasn’t my fault. Let me go. I’ll burn candles for you. I–I…”
His words dissolved into incoherent babbling.
A grim satisfaction appeared in Lydia’s eyes. “Killing me wasn’t enough for you. You even wanted to go after my family. You animal. You deserve to die.”

Zachary was on the verge of tears. I never thought about touching your family!”
Lydia froze for a moment. Then she recalled Dominic’s words, and her expression grew even more vicious. “Someone like you is capable of anything. How could you not want to wipe out the roots? Nothing you say now will save you”
Zachary felt utterly wronged. I never even thought about harming your family. Which bastard said I wanted to wipe them out?
But arguing about that now was meaningless.
He thought of the bodyguards at home and prepared to shout for help. Yet just as he opened his mouth, Lydia suddenly pulled hard with both hands.
The rope around Zachary’s neck tightened instantly, and his voice died in his throat. His entire body fensed. Veins bulged along his neck, and his face rapidly turned red.
His arms were restrained. His legs kicked wildly and uselessly. The crushing suffocation forced him to struggle with all his strength.
Lydia showed no sign of loosening her grip.
At that moment, her eyes held only burning hatred. Revenge against Zachary had become her deepest obsession.
The rope around his neck tightened further. Zachary’s face grew redder and redder. Soon, even his eyes turned bloodshot
He stared at Lydia, despair filling his gaze.
In that instant, scenes from his life flashed wildly through his mind like a spinning lantern.
Suddenly, the images froze on a single memory.
At the brink of death, Zachary seemed to understand.
His thoughts returned to what Dominic had once told him. The words now rang with crystal clarity.” You’re going to die. You’ll die at the hands of someone… you’d never expect.”
