Katherine felt a sudden, inexplicable irritation and said flatly, “He has a seven–year–old child.”
Her voice was not loud, but it carried clearly across the room. Several women immediately showed disappointment.
Dominic, however, felt a surge of energy. ‘See? My girl is already getting jealous. Maybe tonight I actually have a chance!”
Katherine glanced at him and said coldly, “Stop grinning like an idiot. Eat something.”
After all, he had just downed a full glass of 53–degree liquor in one gulp, something most people could not handle.
Dominic nodded repeatedly and picked up his cutlery.
As the drinks kept flowing, the atmosphere grew livelier. Even though Dominic did not know the names of Katherine’s classmates, that did not stop them from chatting. He soon grew familiar with them and even heard several stories about her
school days.
“One thing about Katherine in high school, she was really low–key,” a woman said with a laugh. “Back then, nobody knew she was the eldest daughter of the Sinclairs. But she was so beautiful. Who knows how many boys liked her?”
She continued with a grin, “Later, a school bully had his love letter thrown into the trash. He felt humiliated, so he brought a few guys to block Katherine after school. Guess what happened next?”
Dominic’s expression changed instantly.
“What happened? Those bastards did not do anything to my girl, did they?” he asked, his voice tense.
Katherine’s face darkened. She shot him a glare and pressed her foot down on his.
The woman laughed. “Then another girl showed up. The bully was stunned. He did not expect someone as beautiful as Katherine to have a sister just as gorgeous!”
Katherine explained calmly, “It was Isabella looking for me. At that time, we were not in the same school.”
The woman continued, “But the girl who came later was fierce. When she found out what the bully planned to do, she made a phone call, and a group of bodyguards showed up. That group of guys ended up in the hospital that same day. Later, for some reason, they all dropped out of school…”
Dominic nodded. Given Isabella’s personality, that sounded completely believable.
They continued chatting and eating, and before long, evening arrived.
Dominic appeared drunk and unsteady. Katherine sighed and supported him as she helped him outside.
A trace of smugness flickered in his eyes. Her faint fragrance, so close to him, made him feel unexpectedly at ease
“Why are you as heavy as a pig?” Katherine complained as they walked out of the hotel
Even so, she could not bring herself to leave him there alone.
Fortunately, the Sinclairs‘ driver and bodyguards were waiting nearby in their car.
“Just stay here,” Katherine said with a soft snort as she released him and walked ahead to call the bodyguards over.
However, the people standing not far ahead stared at her with ill intent, which made her pause in confusion.
Dominic chuckled softly and was about to speak when his heart jolted. His eyes snapped in the same direction.
In front of Katherine stood a man wearing a baseball cap and a face mask. He held a dark pistol, which he slowly Labse
Dominic’s expression changed drastically, and he moved at once.

At that moment, he had two choices. The first was to push Katherine away. The second was to rush forward and block the gun
But the man’s target was clearly Katherine. Even if she avoided the first bullet, she would still be exposed afterward.
In that split second, Dominic made his decision. He lunged forward with explosive speed, moving past Katherine and charging straight at the gunman.
